I agree, talk to BMS and see what they say, but if the jb+ isn't on the car and the code is still there/you don't clear it with the bt scanner, bmw would have NO way to knowing that it was in the first place

I think its only fair that on a public forum everyone is aware that there are known issues with ALL tunes. I am running an SSTT. Its only unfair to everyone else if we try to resolve issues behind the scenes with the vendor. Even if its only a handful of people with this issue, its still an issue and anyone buying a tune should be aware of these possible issues.

I find it very ironic that the limp mode occurs at the same exact RPM with the JB+ and SSTT in similar temperatures. The easy solution for the JB+ is to turn the boost lower, I do not have that option. The real solution would be to figure out what is different with the cars that have this issue (e.g. leak, oil in intercooler, higher mileage) compared to just lowering the boost.

If I clear the code (which I have done), take off the tune, and go to the dealer, they tell me nothing is wrong, because the problem only occurs with the tune....hence why some of us are reaching out on the forum for ideas.

Before installing the tune one has to make sure the car is free of problems and quality fuel is used, as well as proper operation of the tune (outside temperature, boost settings, etc.) Thus not to blame it on the tune after the CEL's are thrown. Mind you there are lots of stock N54s with problems in the first place. So I think the tuner will help you faster then us throwing random ideas around and making it look like a tuner war at the end.

I have a feeling it has nothing to do with the JB+. I drove my on a recent road trip through the desert (temps hitting around 110 for about 4 hours striaght) with my JB+ turned up to 90% and not one error code or limp mode was induced, and I since I was in the desert with not one car around, I pushed my car very very hard. It could be the fact that your car has the beginning stages of an issue and the JB+'s increase of the boost is bringing the issue to the front burner..
Just my .02 mixed with a little common sense.

2.If possible, get your car scanned. If you dont want to buy a scanner, there might be someone local who can scan your car.

Limp modes are not just the byproduct of mods... I get them from cornering to hard. If it's a one time thing, i wouldn't worry about it. How long have you had the JB+ on for?

Is it almost certain that since it induced this limp mode I have a code thrown?

The circumstances: It was very hot and humid here when I was driving home, I had the A/C on "Max" for parts of my drive (only about a 20 min drive) and the engine malfunction message appeared in the last 5 minutes or so, after some WOT driving and possibly not fully warmed up yet. I got the message while I was about to pull off the highway and honestly, the "Reduced Poer" didnt feel nearly as reduced as I would have expected. When I got off at my exit and there was a red light I turned the car off and on again. No long cranks although the idle seemed/seems a little rough (then again this seems to be true of bone stock n54s).

Any thoughts? My main concern is that I threw a code.

Sounds like a VANOS code to me, since it did not turn on while you were under heavy boost. Adding more power puts a more strain on the VANOS system and sometimes brings out problems that were already there more easily. Since you had the JB+ at the default setting no need to worry about detection codes. Just remove and take it to the dealer, or if you want to self diagnose get a BT scan.

Inapplicable. Driving in a desert with minimum humidity does not compare.

He's got a BT. So he's scanned it.

With the JB+ or SSTT the 30FF code indicates you are below boost target. With the JB+ you can lower the boost, or perform the free solenoid bypass. You will need to contact SSTT for help on their end. Perhaps they can make a one-off unit with less boost if someone has the problem.

If the 30FF does not trigger a warning light it's not a big issue though. Does not reveal you had a tune installed, just that the car took longer than expected to build boost.

Impressive, the funny thing is as it gets warmer and warmer more and more people are going to experience problems with this N54 engine. Lucky for me I see it year round.

As many of you suggested, I contacted Terry at Burger Motorsports; he and Mike were both quick to respond. Also as many of you mentioned Terry was extremely professional and provided great customer service. Thanks for everyone's input.

Yeah I will need to do that, I was just in for inspection so hopefully it will be a while before I need to go to the dealer, in the mean time I'm looking for a BT tool to clear them. If I cant locate someone with one I will just have to go to Bimmerworks to get it cleared, I spoke with them and they have a tool.

SSTT for 8 months now limping

I've had my SSTT for 8 months on my '08 and today for the fist time went into limp mode. Pulled the tune out and it runs ok now but haven't tried putting it back in. What should I do next?
