Thumbs up Minimal brake dust from 2011 335is.

Out of all my 10+ previous German automobiles produced in the last 8 years; none have had the ability to minimize the brake dust as BMW has for the 2011 335is.

The brake dust has ALMOST been completely eliminated.

In what my 2006 330i would produce in 30 miles, the 2011 335is could take 300 miles to create the same brake dust.

In short the 2011 335is has FINALLY, ALMOST completely conquered the brake dust demons!

It's good enough for me!

That is all...

Ahem... photos to come!

I think that probably has more to do with wheel design than brakes themselves because as far as I know the 335is brakes are exactly the same as a 335i. I had a 335i and it produced the normal extreme amounts of brake dust that BMWs always do. Either way that is great news, maybe I should get a set of 335is wheels for my car.

Oh, and +1 on the emoticons. I've never seen so many in one post before.

I have noticed the same thing. I have practically ZERO brake dust. I love this!

I'm actually looking at the 335is, but I'm not sure I want to jump the gun just yet. Good news on the dust, but does that solve the squeaky brake issue? Maybe it does since I heard they are supposedly using new pads. My other concerns with the 335is is if they have resolved the wastegate rattle, fuel injector issues and ticking engine noises that showed up with the 335i for years.

I wish I someone knew. I guess only time will tell.

Ohh yeah, how about the fuel pump? Is that still an issue?

I think BMW has changed pad materials or something on the newer models, our 2011 335d doesnt make brake dust the way previous generation 3,5,x,m series cars have, I am very glad they finally seem to have worked this out.

+1, my 2011 335i practically has no dust (initially I thought it was manual cause my other BMW are auto but no it's the pads)

Now I am waiting for similar pads for my 535i, EAS inidcates they they have similar/same pad's material for other BMW model, it's called "cool carbon" pads.
Will try these soon on my 535i, hopefully same bite with no dust.

Minimal brake dust (none really), no brake squeak, and by 4k miles, I've had 2 engine hesitations (fuel pump problem).

I have a 2010 335i E93 and have minimal to no brake dust. Before I would clean the break dust off between washes now there is no need!

can you elaborate on that more please....

i think they might have changed the pads...but the design of the wheels are "designed" to allow additional air flow to your brakes. maybe that helps a bit more too

I don't think there's any more airflow to the wheels then a standard 3. All the airflow improvements are to cool the engine down to my understanding. The new pads are most likely why there's less dust.

I'm more interested in the two hesitations he mentioned, wtf.

I wish I could get the same brake pads on my other cars. My '10 335d produces minimal brake dust, making the wheels super easy to keep clean. No harsh chemicals needed to clean them, like in the past.

My Saab 9-5 Aero wagon's front wheels start to darken after just a few miles of city driving.

The LCI E90s didn't have the brake dust problem, either (or don't, I should say).

My 07 E90 would turn Gunmetal inside a week. My '10 doesn't have that problem.

I have an 02 rsx which used to have dusty brakes (wash my cars weekly and about 350 miles/ week). Upgraded to Brembo brakes new pads...dusted little during street driving, A LOT on tracks.

With the 335is, I can go a week without ANY noticeable brake dust. The brakes do not squeak in anyway, or feel mushy-although it could use a BBK with the extra weight from the e93...maybe some brembos are in order

The 335is uses the exact same N54 engine that has been used for years (with the exception of an additional radiator and programming to give it more HP and TQ), so it is just as likely to have the same issues. Shoot, even the new N55 uses the same HPFP as the N54, so it's not likely there will be any improvement in reliability.

You can tell which apartment is mine by looking at the concrete in front of all the enclosed garages. My garage is the only one with four big gray patches on the concrete about the same distance apart of the wheels of a 3 series.

I am afraid I have a bit of scrubbing to do.

I have an '09 335d LCI.

Does anybody know how many miles these brake pads last? I am about 33k miles now and I am hoping to have the pads replaced under warranty before it expires. Maybe I should start slamming on the brakes more often to wear them out before my warranty expires. LOL

It is stunning how little brake dust accumulates on the wheels compared to my 330.

I had no idea they changed brake pad material, now I'm jealous. I barely drive 30 miles and there is a light coating on my wheels. It grows tiresome, If I did'nt have free maintenance I would have tried different pads already. I wonder if I will get these upgraded pads when I go into the dealer for a brake pad change?
