yeh its tethered and the only time it matters is if you want to do anything related to jailbreak like SSHing into your device, or running Cydia, then all you need to do is boot with redsnow.

Also i've been hearing thru the grapevine that a full jailbreak and unlock is due to come out from one of the developers in 6 days and counting!
