USB/AUX socket -> usb cable -> MULF2
Hi to all,
after coded MULF2 and Radio Professional in my e91 I bought on Ebay the USB/AUX socket for USB pen drive. What I expecting was that socket cable goes directly connected to the MULF connector, but the white USB connector is male and the same male connector in on the MULF2 side. So I think there must be another long cable with female connectors on both side, to connect USB/AUX socket to MULF2 (I think this socket goes inside the armrest, isn't so?) USB/AUX socket has BMW code 61319129651 and I need to know the code of the female-femal cable or where to find/buy those female connectors to build the cable by myself. On the white USB connectors cover, the male BMW code is 6982237, the female one is 6982242. Thanks a lot! |

Re
Have you found any info on this. What type of connector is the white 4 pin round one, is there a name for this type of connector. It is similar to mini din but I think it is smaller looking at the picture.

I wired mine to a Dension 500, but I just stripped the end of a USB extension cable and soldered the wires in the cable to the pins. It was tough getting my soldering iron in that tight space, but I managed it.
FWIW, I think it's a some style of FAKRA connection, but I've only seen FAKRA use SMA coaxial connectors (where the circular part is): http://www.pasternack.com/fakra-cabl...-category.aspx |

it is a fakra connector, i attempted this retrofit as well but stopped when I realized that I needed a full retrofit harness that ran to the usb hub that goes in the drivers footwell from the mulf2 and from the hub to the center console

Thanks to both for replies. Now I'm alomost undecided should I go with this connector or just solder which is less expensive.
GenePoole, did you solder only 4 wires to 4 pins or also one wire (5th wire) to the round metal casing on the rear? I need to know if the round metal serves for any contact. |

That is the shield. It is same as ground, but it should be connected if possible to shield from spurious emissions from other electrical stuff in the car. I just kept the foil shield under the cable covering relatively intact, and when I was done, wrapped it around the metal and secured it all with heat-shrink tubing. I had to cut the plastic part off with a dremel to accomplish all this.
