I'm planning on doing the swap this weekend on my 328 as well. Ray, was the install pretty self explanatory?

Very very self explanatory except that i ended up getting new manifold gaskets but it wasn't bad at all!

So do you feel the power difference is worth the money? I already have the AA ecu flash. I was emailing one of the guys over at AA and he said by me adding the manifold may give me extra 10-15 hp and upgrading to the stage2 flash for $100 would get an extra 6 hp. Very tempting!

just out of curiosity doesn't the manifold conversion require a tune or else the engine light goes on?

Nope, but you'll have to physically double check to make sure you've put the right manifold in the hole since its not gonna give you much.

Ok I'm gonna stab myself in the eye!!!! Lol. I've been reading that the 328i (sulev) already has a stage 3 manifold, just the compression ration is slightly different. Is this true or not? Can somebody please straighten this out!!!! Thanks

You are correct! You can verify it by looking at the manifold. You should see (2) rectangular boxes attached to each side of the manifold in the middle.

Ok thanks,so I can just stick with my AA flash. Has anyone done the stage2 with valvetronic maps and does it make a difference in how the car drives. It's a $100 upgrade

I drove the stage 1 for 3 weeks before upgrading to stage 2 in my 328i, so I guess I can talk to this a bit though I don't have the 3 stage intake. Overall I'd say that the stage 2 will give you a little more of what you got out of stage 1.

Throttle response is definitely better and most of the power improvement over stage 1 seems to come in at over 4k rpm. Don't focus so much on the max hp gains which usually reflect the power at a particular rpm point. The difference really comes in at the gain all along the rpm range. As far as gas mileage goes, as long as you keep your foot out of the throttle it should be comperable to stage 1. Good luck doing that though.

I ended up getting the simon tuning device as opposed to just having the tune reflashed for me at $100. That way I can keep the stock file and revert to OEM if needed or reflash the tune if it gets written over at some point. If I was smart, I would've gotten the device from the get go. So, yes, I guess I would say it's worth the money since I ended up spending even more than $100.

As with your stage 1 tune, don't judge it right after it's done. It will take several dozen miles before it really comes into its own. I'd also recommend resetting your engine/transmission learn settings afterwards. You can do this by insterting your key, holding down the accelerator, and turning the ignition on (i.e. press the start button twice without pressing the brake). Hold down the accelerator for at least 25 seconds and then start the car as normal.

Yeah I wasn't expecting too much as far as gains from the stage2 just wanted to know if it makes car run any better. Ive actually had the stage1 for about 8 months and couldn't imagine driving without it, lol. Really does make a difference! As far as resetting trans I bought my car new and don't think I need to do it since I'm the only driver. So I guess I better save money for the Simon tool. Wish they would enable it to be used on more than one car though

So the money he saved in parts he spent on fitting and labour? Brand new parts is still the best option in my book!

He's saying that labor was under 500; So I understand that its 500 + the parts? 500 in labour is a steal indeed; but not in a good way! This shouldnt take a mechanic more then 3 hours. If he charges more either he is incompetent, dont know what he's doing or obviously lying.

I dont know why so much people pay to do this. Take your time and its very DIY-able. If I did it, everybody could. I'm not a mechanical guy at all but if you can distinguish nuts and bolts, you should be ok. But you have to get the good parts in the first place for sure.
My aftermarket specialist quoted me only 255 for the entire intake manifold swap and 85 to remove and install my new magnaflow catback dual mufflers on my 2009 328i

what kind of times are the 328i running with the stage 3 manifolds? I'm very interested in making this upgrade + tune. but new to the world but don't really wanna trade cars for 335, but i am looking for improved performance in power gains.

Nobody drag races a 328i, so no idea on times. That's more for the 335 crowd. A 328i with the 3 stage manifold and a proper tune should be looking at 260-265bhp. All I know is that the car feels absolutely transformed after the conversion is done.

Yes you can just get all the parts for the 3-stage manifold hook it up and it will work. There is a thread in the forum that has the whole list you need. Now to get the best performance out of it. You need a tune or Powerbox. Which I'm running the Powerbox and can't be happier with the performance. Once I get the MMW headers then I will have a custom tune done for my car.

you can use the powerbox on a 3 stage manifold?? serious? I thought you either had to get the 330i ECU or get a custom tune like AA or Eurocharged to make it work.

cuz I have already a powerbox and this would be very tempting....

Nope you can run it. I have had it like that for about a 6 months now. No issues what do ever. That is why I'm waiting for headers before custom tune. No sense in spending the extra money until I get the headers.
