the reason i chose alcon was that the Alcon 4POT uses the 365mm Rotor (bigger than Brembo's 6POT is 355mm)
and that the 365MM + Alcon 4pot Caliper fits under 18s for track usage (so does the STOPTECH aw325xi is using)
(im sure you'd track with 18" > 19")
I agree that Alcons are unbelievable brakes, but i do have to comment about my Rotoras. They are really good and they feel very nice.
I've had great results with just the caliper kits on the track.

The best thing about the caliper kits as that you can use the OEM rotors and you can still fit 17" wheels over the calipers.
To me, that's a great option to have.

Here are the pics that I took when I had the silver CSLs:
6 POT Front
4 POT Rear

I love your setup and wanted to get the same from Vivid. The only thing Im concerned with is that the calipers arent big enough??!! Ya sounds lame, but I want something similar in size to the Brembo GTs!!

Why would you want or need bigger calipers?
A lot of people are running 4 pot Brembos in the front on a track.
More pistons isn't necessarily better.

Measure from the center of your hub to the inner barrel of your wheel for the clearance you have. The Brembo 6-piston, 355mm kit requires more than 210mm, which is huge.

Bimmer33507 - I did a lot of research on brakes prior to purchasing.
Here's a thread I started with lots of dimensions. These measurements are from the cross-section from the website. You may have to run a spacer to clear the caliper if your wheel doesn't have enough concavity.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=154830

On a side note: I'm not sure what you're going to use the BBK for, but I track my car. I went with Stoptech because the calipers are forged, not cast. I'm not sure about AP, but Brembo and as it was pointed out Alcon are cast (I'm not positive about the Alcon, just quoting from above).
In order to get forged Brembo's you need to get the GTR kit, which I've only seen advertised on Turner's website as starting at $15,000. The Stoptechs were actually less expensive than the Brembo's and have no problems fitting under 18" rims for the most part.
Just my .02c - I hope this helps.

you can fit the 6-piston Brembo's under 18" wheels even with 380mm rotors. It would probably work only on e90 335 due to more aggressive offset. Volk 18" TE37 will clear those calipers and rotors. So, no - you don't have to go only with 19" wheels.

here are some pics and info from Bob@BPS

There are quite a few wheels with clearance for the spokes. The problem is the inside diameter of the barrel.

Well, I've been doing research for a few weeks and i have some options I know will work. Here is of 18" wheels I have either test-fitted myself or confirmed with the manufacturer will work.
  • Volk TE37s in 18x9.5 will fit. I have a set I used on my E46 M3 that I test fiitted this past weekend. See pics below. I have spoken to our rep @ Mackin and plan on driving done to do more test fitting to see if there are any other applications that will work.
  • CCW Corsair series. Corvette guys have been running the Brembo/CCW combo with great success for a while
  • HRE Competition Series. The Rolox/Tax Heuer of wheels and is a beautiful wheel. Due to cost, might not be the track wheel of choice, but a great option on the street if you want the cushier ride of an 18" tire.

I will be advertising wheel/tire packages in the for sale section soon. Please PM if you'd like a personalized quote.

Bob

The yellow time attack stripes are vinyl stickers. I had yellow AP Racing brakes on my old E46 M3.

Close-up of the front of the car

Clearance in the rear is no problem at all.

Note: I used blue painter's tape to protect the finish of the caliper while I was test-fitting the wheel. There is somewhere between 5 and 10mm of clearance between the bridge of the caliper and the barrel. Race Technologies has confirmed that 5mm of clearance is fine.

Close-up of the bridge of the caliper

Lower portion of the caliper clears with no problem, too

Another pic of the bottom of the caliper

Top of the caliper. it was too tight to pull the painter's tape off with the wheel on. It does give you an idea of how much clearance there is at that point. It's close, but it works.

Congrats - there are at least a couple sets of wheels in 18" that'll fit over the 6-piston brakes. Most 18" wheels are not going to clear the 6-piston Brembos, especially the stock wheels.

And if there is 5 - 10mm clearance with the 355mm 6-piston Brembos (as stated below), the 380mm won't fit. They're 11mm larger than the 355mm (dimension from the center of the wheel to the inner barrel).

Brembo----355mm----------6--------------210mm
Brembo----355mm----------4--------------200mm
Brembo----380mm----------4--------------215mm
Brembo----380mm----------6--------------221mm

I'm not trying to bust on you at all. I am actually glad that someone else has done testing and found wheels that fit. It's not easy to find an 18" wheel that's going to clear that caliper.

P.s. Bob's car looks SICK!

Will the brembo 6 piston front and 4 piston rear fit the M6 reps wheels???....i believe they are 19x9.5 in the rear with a 33 offset....Fronts are 19x8.5 with a 35 offset
Hey NYBMW335i,

There was fitment tests done on the M6 wheels with the Brembos - and they did clear. If you want a cut out to measure for yourself I can sent you some over.

Anyway as AW325xi - its very hard to get the brakes on most 18" sized wheels, there are probably a handful of wheels that will fit the BBK, so very difficult.

The student that I gave a few hot laps too said it perfectly as I braked very hard into T2 at laguna seca this past monday..."NOW THAT was what I was afraid to do in my car!". My Alcon's performed flawlessly at the track once again...the most important thing is that even though I keep checking them out..they have made it so that I dont have to worry about if my brakes are gonna go away sometime during the session.

IMHO, Brembos seem to be more for the HIN/HID crowd where they wanna display a BBK..rather than use it on the track. I like Brembo's...know Gary at Race Technologies (the Brembo importer) and have talked to him several times about what Brembo has to offer. StaSIS is local to me...and I can drop in anytime to ask them questions or have them check out something on my brakes. That is why I went with the StaSIS Alcon set up.

I think the main questions is, "what pads are you running with the Alcons?"

Although I agree with you with the Alcons, I believe that the key part is the pad.
I'd like to know what pad is being used with your alcons.
Because, it really doesn't matter what BBK you are running if you are running a street pad on the track.

Mr. 5..I am running the StaSIS provide SBS Track pad..not their race pad. It does not squeal like my old pagid blacks..or my Hawk Blues. SBS is out of Skandinavia.
