Distorted Metal Window Trim

I was looking at a 335i today and saw the aluminum trim that surrounds the windows. It was significantly discolored (as in not shiny with blotch marks). The salesman tried to sell me on the idea that it would come off w/ aluminum/chrome polish.. but I had a friend who had this issue also.. and that discoloration wouldn't come out for anything. I believe it's the wearing away of the clear type coat that sits on top of the aluminum (or maybe the aluminum itself). So can this be restored? If not .. how much to fix and how?

I use Nevr-dull. It doesn't completely clear up the trim but only takes a few minutes and makes it look a lot better.

I'm starting to believe that dealers actually merely replace the trim.. I'll probably be at one in a day or two.. I'll ask, if I get an answer I'll post. I've seen this happen to a couple BMW's. One BMW rep tried to tell me that BMW constructs and protects it poorly.

Most of the trim is either anodized or otherwise coated -- you can't do much to clean them up if they get stained, waterspotted or scratched.

My 07 trim looked terrible when I picked it up a few months ago. Never Dull didn't work for me. I used Menzerna Intensive Polish by hand and was able to remove 90% of it. I need to go at it again with my buffer to see if that helps.
