Bridgestone RE960 A/S doesn't come in 255/35/18? What to do now for 18x8.5 rim?

I currently have style 162 rims in 18x8 size with Bridgestone RE960 A/S tires in 225/40/18 size on all 4 corners of my car. Original thought was to keep this setup throughout the whole year, but I changed my mind and want to get 16" or 17" rims with snows for winter and get a pair of 162 rims in the 18x8.5 size for the rears for summer, leaving 2 of the 4 wheels I have now for the front and selling the extra pair of fronts.

Problem is Bridgestone does not make the RE960's in 255/35/18 size for the rears and I'd like to stick with BMW specified sizes. I also want to have the same model tire all around.

What's my best option?, trying to keep the cost and hassle down to a minimum and I have TPMS valves and stems to deal with.

1) Get the RE960 A/S in the compromised size of 265/35/18 size for the rears, leave the fronts alone. sell the 2 extra front wheel with tires and TPMS.

2) Dismount All the RE960's, sell them as a package (2500 miles), Sell the 2 extra 18x8 wheels, then get 4 other model tire that offers both front and rear standard sizes, I was thinking Yoko Advan.S4.

3) Insert your option here.

Maybe I should have worded it this way instead:

How much of a compromise am I making by getting the 265/35/18's, given that I will have 225/40/18 up front.

The tire calculator says 265's are about a 1% increase in diameter over the 255's, but my concern is the rears would be about a 1% larger diameter over the fronts. That mismatch (front to rear) seems more important than the 255 vs. 265.

Personally I think 235-265 looks better on 162's, but I really rather not deviate from BMW sizes, at least while I am still under warranty.

I think I solved my problem with the least hassle. Instead of getting 17" rims for winter use and trying to reconfigure my current 162 rims (all 4 at 8x18) to a staggered setup, I decided to use the current 18" rims as dedicated winter wheels. Then just get another set of 162's staggered for summer. All I have to do is sell off a set of 4 very new 18" 225/40 RE960AS, once I put a set of snows on those wheels.

Since you are driving an XI, you'll want to be really careful about the difference between front and rear rolling circumference being too large.

I've decided to keep my stock staggered 18"s as winter wheels, and I'm using the same tires (255/35) front and back.

Good luck!

I drive an XI now but in a few weeks I'll be driving a 328i.
