Quite interesting ... RS500
Ford Focus RS500.
Slightly upped spec, and black wrap. Probably a Marmite ™ car, but with only 101 coming to the UK .... Power from the turbocharged 2.5-litre five-cylinder motor is up from 300bhp to 345bhp, while torque is up 15lb ft to 339lb ft. http://www.focusrs500.com/ D.

I was talking to Motoscope Nortallerton a few days ago, who were chipping factory RS's to 350 bhp and declared them almost undrivable.
I like the look of it though Dave. |

Its target market won't be able to insure it.

I like it, but for 35k I can think of at least a thousand cars I would rather have, of which perhaps about 100 are a lot quicker, better specced and desirable.
I am dubious about the RS' long term ability to hold its value (they are fine now) but I think this one will do better... Course with a 10k premium over a standard one, its all relative anyway! Not keen on the black wrap either really... but it is quite interesting! Matt |

Id expect it would be a paint job surely? Not just a wrap.
Looks Chavvy. Big Fail not making it 4WD with even more power. 35K. Ouch.

I won't press you to name a thousand, or even all 100, how about a fifth ? So, name 20 new cars you can buy today for £35k that will be more desirable in 10 years time than a Focus RS500 (remember there will only be 101 RHD examples). I'll go put the kettle on when you draw up that list. Bonus points if you can find 100 comparable cars that are even offered for sale, big gold star if you can list all the thousand. How did you find it on the road ? Have you ever driven one ? Not my idea of my first car. But as a 2nd or 3rd car I have absolutely no doubt Ford will shift the lot - if they haven't all been allocated already. D.

If you painted a piece of shit gold, listed it for £300 and told people it was real you would sell 101 of them. People are always willing to take a punt on something like that. Doesn't make it a good idea. Second or Third car? Why?? It's a totally normal hatchback with an excellent chassis and a very good engine... Second or Third car? No chance. Read my post again, take off your FORD glasses and remember that I am not being nearly as critical as you think. The Focus RS is great and not to be underestimated. In fact my WR330 handles its 330 bhp with ease, let alone an RS with its RevoKnuckle handling 350 with ease so I don't doubt it will be formiddable. I test drove two standard ones when I bought the 135 and I was very keen on them. As for your list of cars? I reckon I could get close to 20. In fact you have probably picked 20 because you can list about 14 or 15 which I would reel off RIGHT away. Matt |

I gave you a fighting chance with only asking for 20, but if you are so confident list the 100. D.

THIS.
Should've been 4 WD. Lot of money to spend when something else could be bought for the same moolah. For the target market who want this, spend 5k more and buy a Litchfield and get an even better car...the only thing that appeals is the exclusivity of the thing hence the premium. |

Oh well, you should be able to rattle off that 100 dead easy then. A top 100 countdown.

Think it is at 33.6 mpg at the moment. Haven't the faintest idea what it is in the RS. I just fill it up when it needs fuel.
D. Go on, is this going to descend into a how low your MPG is ...indicating some sort of how agressive I am at driving slant ?

Its a bit OTT... from some angles it looks good like the ones above but from some others it looks gash, like some kid has pulled a handbrake and plowed through halfrawds.
That is a very small amount of cars even for an RS as was said most will be sold already, dont think you will find another car from a mainstream manufacturer that will hold its value like the RS. But there is a lot of other 'second hand' cars id buy first in the price range. Would also like to see them going back to 4wd, but take its to do with costs. |
