NC, 98 on 70, what to do?
Just got a ticket for driving 98 on a 70 on HWY540 in NC.
Express Highway, really light traffic. Everyone was doing 80+! tho!!! I have WA license, and I really have no idea what to do. Please input some advice. Thanks!! |

Buy an escort radar | laser detector for the future and in the mean time get a bottle of KY.
Seriously that suck man. NC and SC troopers are serious! Was it a marked car?

Guess call up an attorney and discuss is the 1st step - based on your driving record you could have different outcomes. I have had my buddies and myself pulled over for 24+ in excess and it panned out decently but puts a hole in the pocket though !!! |

I totally didn't see him. He must have been hiding somewhere. Quote:
The reason I am worrying about this is that I recently moved here for work, and I might need to get NC license in the near future. I currently have WA state license, and my record is clean. I guess in this case it is a better idea for me to hire a lawyer? Thanks for the inputs!! |

I do hire cause I don't really feel like going out there and stand in a court waiting to fight off a ticket coz I am a lazy ass. That being said I do try and justify that though, financially, in my head Also 1st moving violation in NC will not affect your insurance premiums (know that from my last experience) plus the fact that if NC and WA do not exchange traffic ticket information maybe you will be better off just paying the fine alone and not worry about hiring an attorney after all. But only lawyers should know that from experience. Let us know how it goes. |

I think NC and WA do exchange driving records. I think CA and NC don't exchange. I lived in CA for 2 months before I came here, should've got a CA license during that time! I will do more research on local lawyers. I'll keep you guys updated. Thanks again! |

That high above the limit might add points to your license. Since you have a clean record, you might be able to talk to the DA on your court date and get it reduced to 10 over or whatever it is to avoid points.

I've had a clean record since 1994 (when I say clean, I mean nothing) Got stopped few months back in Huntersville on HWY 73 (I live in Concord) doing 68 in a 45.... It was my time too... The officer reduced it to 59 so I wouldn't get a 'Must Appear', but the ticket still came with points.
Since I have an attorney connection (discount ) I went that route, plus the $280 fine. Cost me about $400+, but it kept the points off my license. Where I grew up in the north east, it doesn't work that way. The attorney thing was all new to me in NC. Good luck

According to my experience receiving a speeding ticket in NC, you'll be receiving several attorney solicitations via mail by the end of the week. I would hire one to go to court for you.

If you're out of state the points might not go on your license... not sure how it works where you're from. If you had been in Virginia they would have charged you with reckless driving (a misdemeanor I believe) and maybe even arrested you.
Hate to say it, but seems like the best case scenario is a hefty fine. Good luck |
