Thanks to the forum for being a resource for DIYs, So I spent the day under the car in the garage doing transmission service and changing the transferase fluid. First off Im not sure what jackass made that Transfer case mount bolt but I could not get the thing out at all. Forums to the rescue though there was a work around by punching 14mm allen key out from a drive socket that was just perfect for getting the fill hole open. . There was just enough room to crack the seal and then turn it by hand .


Thanks also to FCP Euro for providing all fluid, gaskets and bolts in one kit.

You all are awesome. Car drives great I was a little confused that the transmission took in more fluid than I drained out. Ran it up to temperature checked with scanner.

The transfer case is a pita to change it, next time id pay a shop to do it.
Did you do a transmission adaptation reset?

I did the procedure with the ignition and gas pedal. I looked at the software route but the relearn procedure looks like it would require a lot of road and time without traffic

I'm probably doing the link wrong but you can go and search ( fcp euro e90 transmission adaptation reset) and at the bottom of the directions depending on your vehicle it will give you instructions on how the vehicle should be driven to relearn the shift points. Its pretty specific on the number of times through each step .

make sure you do the transferbox oil change in ISTA or with your scanner.

It makes a difference in how it works.
You'll hear it whirring and the like for a bit and it basicaly readjusts itself to the wear levels on the plates and the lubricity of new fluid.

fcp euro e90 transmission adaptation reset is for ZF trans, with GM trans you need to use WinKFP

I bought a hardened 14mm hex key and used my Dremmel and several cutoff wheels and cut off enough to fit exactly into the plug and a straight ratcheting 14mm wrench.

No bolts or mounts need to be removed. Just wiggle the setup into place, take the plug out, take the drain plug out, drain and put plug back in. Fill up and wiggle the plug back into place.

How do you punch the key out of the socket ? I bought one to do this years ago but never knew how to get the key out.

Careful with this - the trans will never be the same unless you can follow the adaptation instructions 100% perfectly. It took me about an hour, late at night on some backroads with a friend, and I still don't think I got it right.

It usually takes about 50 miles of normal driving (in my experience) after a transmission reset but yes it does feel weird for a little while.

If you do the good step by step you will be ok.

I do my oil change for the tranny with redline oil and i change also the filter and my tranny was slipping between 2 and 3 gears.

I do the adaptation reset adaptation with the tools from the garage of my friend and the tranny was slipping...

I was thinking to flush the redline oil but i take my MHD apps and i do the adaptation reset and after that the tranny was running better than new..

I dont know how to explain that but if you got some problem be sure your adaptation was done!

Nice! had no idea this could be done, but I haven't gotten under there to do a full investigation, either.

I need to knock a bit of the edge off the insert so that it fits better and easier to get inserted.
