Running higher maps...91octane?

This question might have been answered before, but I searched and didn't find much.

Since we don't have 93octane at our disposal in California, or at least where I live, 91 is the highest.

How do you run higher maps, that require 93 octane? I know there are octane booster, but I don't want to deal with that on a frequent basis.

Is it ok to run higher maps like JB3 Map 5, with 91 octane (aftermarket exhaust and dci installed?

What about if I have aftermarket exhaust, dci, aftermarket intercooler installed?

Thanks for looking....

Sometimes your mods will allow you to run higher maps. Only way to really tell is by logging. Gas here in CA is so shitty that the only way to do so is to run 100 octane (which can get pricy) or meth injection.

Thanks chili, that's what i'm trying to avoid, to run meth.

I'm just wondering if I have the mods to support the map, but not the octane, would it have adverse effects on the engine? I know I probably won't get the performance gain listed, but just wondering is it safe to run a higher map.

I'm just wondering how all the other cali people get away with running higher maps without 93 octane....

I guess it helps to fill up with top tier gas.
When I was runing a JB3 I would set it on map 7 on cool days. But my daily driver was map 5. On those hot summer days I would go down to map3.
I don't worry about that much anymore since I have Meth

Supposedly there is a place in San Jose that has 93. I don't have the list here at work, but it's less than an hour from SF...which is worth it to me. Gonna check it out this weekend maybe.

I regularly mix 91 with 100 to get 93. But had to run my RB Turbos on 91 for a day or so when I wasn't near my usual gas station, just dropped the PSI to 13.5PSI (from 15PSI) and car still pulled strong.

I don't know, if I can drive to San jose from SF, just to fill up gas lol...probably end up using half my gas getting down there and back.

I wonder if autotuning will help with that and detect a lower octane, when you run x map.

Assuming you're talking about JB4, that's not really how it works - you don't start on map "x" and have it adjust. Map 5 is the only autotuning map, although to answer the real question - yes, octane will be a big factor that it considers.

Thanks for the info, I meant map x as whatever the autotuning map for, whichever tune you have.

I might pm Mike, since I have the jb3 right now. Hopefully I won't be stuck on a lower map.

I don't think JB3 has autotuning, does it?

Ah, yea I'm running the JB4 in my 07, but I haven't updated to autotuning yet. Still debating on saving up for a MacBook Pro or getting a cheap netbook and spending the rest on mods. Probably go with the latter, just trying to find a netbook I'll be happy with.
