Went from Honda Ruckus (49cc skeet skeet), to a 848 . How's that for a transition?

My first bike was a R6s Black Raven. That was a blast to ride.

Ride safely, gents!

I have a Ducatib1098s, complete carbon fiber minus the tank pad, and it's a beast within itself. I would love to get my car on par with it, but that's not even worth it money wise.

I've ran a couple of cbr 600 and made their head spin because they didn't know what was up. One time I ran one, dude had his girl on the back seat.. she waved at me and smiled.. lol made me felt like a gawd(she was pretty damn hot, Hispanic looking college girl from FSU) her man even gave some respect with a thumbs up lol

Anyone go straight to a 600 or 1000 when learning to ride? My car is as fast as a 600 now... so I don't feel like learning on a 250 or something.

Awesome bike, bud. Are you on ducati.org? Just picked up the 848, and that's a beast for me.

Learned to ride on a r6s... no moto/riding experience, prior. Yes, it was fast, but the bike was pretty forgiving (18k redline). But, as I gained experienced, quickly learned that I needed to rev the piss out of it to get speed. You can't go wrong with any of the inline-4 motors.

However, always wanted to try out a twin motor, and goooooood lawwwwd, i feel like i'm driving a diesel. Instant torque on the 848 - compared to the R6s.

hey, are you running speedymoto axle sliders in the front/back? Need to pick up a set once it's out of winter-mode.

Thanks!

It's not the same thing, a fast car and a fast bike.
A fast big bike (superbike i.e. liter bike)--unless you get the latest higher end models with electronics like abs, traction control, and wheelie control--is pretty unforgiving of newbie mistakes.
We're talking unintended wheelies, high-sides and low-sides.
Plus, it'll be the corners that'll get ya, in a bike. Pretty much all of the single vehicle accidents on a bike are in the corners.

Having said all that, some people will have ZERO problems getting on a superbike to start. Remember, a superbike, properly launched, can run with a Bugatti Veyron to about 120-150 mph.

I started on an R6 and went straight to a Panigale 1199. The wet mode on the Panigale makes about as much power as the R6 which was a nice transition but it's quite a difference in power. I've only ridden a couple of older liter bikes but the newer addition of ABS & traction control make the riding a big bike much easier.

I started out on a 800cc middle weight. Easy to handle and plenty fast enough. Then moved on to the R1200S (1200cc of course : ) after just 5 months since it was a super rare bike (less than 300 in US) that just happen to pop up at the local beemer dealer.

As long as you are a responsible person who understands the physics involved with 2 wheels, you should be ok. It is all about being aware of your own mortality and not being an idiot. However, I would go for a more upright bike as a beginner since it will be easier to maneuver at low speed comparing to a full on sport bike with super low clip on bars.

Oh, get a modern bike with ABS. It is just stupid that bikes without ABS are still being sold these days...
