that's a bit stingy, i got 12 months when i got my golf. Guess £300 is a dent in the profit margin though.

I think my order said 230 quid for RFL (road fund licence?) but did wonder whether they'd reflected the budget change or not - think the 335d falls under.

if you know the whereabouts of any additional information on this i'd be very appreciative, like information on how to provoke the sub-modes (specificly "extreme sport" ) - maybe extreme sport is if you drive using no less than the kick-down position or something?

Si.
Zim - this is pretty definite info. At least for the previous generation transmission that I had in my 530d. The following is a technical .pdf which explains about the 2 maps operating in each mode and the way to trigger them.

http://forums.e60.net/index.php?act=...=post&id=13078

Essentially you will switch into the sportier mode if you depress the accelerator quickly (but not necessarily kick down), corner hard or brake hard.

So far as I can tell the new transmission works the same, it just changes more quickly due to an improved hydraulic system and better software.

This is why gearing is so important in comparing cars. I think it also explains why the diesels are becoming so comparatively quick.

Putting the figures they have for a 335i manual (coupe I think) against a 335d torque curve and transmission (same aero and weight data) gives the following the data (see attached jpegs).

On this basis there is hardly anything in it.
Matt, I had a play with this website and got the following figures:

335d 335i
30-60 3 3.15
30-90 8.9 8.60
30-120 17.7 17.45
60-90 5.45 5.25
60-120 14.25 14.10

So around town the 335d will be marginally quicker, but if you are burning to 90, or 120 somewhere it is marginally quicker in the 335i ?

Or the difference is no bigger than the gaps in reaction time between the two drivers!

Really and trully there isn't much difference between the two. They're both bl00dy quick

Are you allowed to call them "white goods" any more? I would have thought that would have been banned along with black holes, accident blackspots, baah baah blacksheep etc.
