Timing chain
Hi all,
Just looking for some advice my 58 plate 320d seems to have developed the dreaded timing chain noise. Seems to be louder some days than others is this normal? I've recorded the sound below Does anyone know how bad this is likely to be by listening to it? Now I do have driveline warranty which i took out at the begining of the year thankfully, but I don't want to be fobbed off by BMW saying that it doesn't need changing or replacing at their cost. |

Mine sounded like that. I also had driveline warranty and the dealer replaced the crank and chains under the warranty.
It hadn't failed by this point and they actually said it was good that I brought it in before it had failed otherwise the job would have cost a lot more. If your dealer isn't bothered or won't do the job then take it to another dealer. They get the work paid for by the warranty company so it's in their interest to take the job on |

Thanks, so yours sounded the same? It's not really loud at the moment but I can see it getting worse. Bit gutted really too as I have always changed the oil every 9k with what BMW recommend, and never use the start stop.
Will take it in at the end of the month when it's due it's Vehicle check |

Mine probably sounded worse actually. You could hear the ticking of the crank and the noise of the chain running on the guides.
How many miles on the engine? Mine went funny around 106k. |
