First attempt at detailing

Nice weather for a change, thought I'd try out my new DA polisher.

Car was washed with Autoglym Bodywork Conditioner using two bucket method.
Wheels were cleaned using Bilberry 1:1 dilution
Bodywork was then dried with Sonus blue perl drying towel

Car was then taken inside and the following was done:

Clayed with Megs clay and quick detailer
Polished with Megs #83, cutting and polishing pad (can't remember which one)
Windows were polished with Autoglym Super Resin Polish
Wiped down with IPA in between each stage

I was hoping to get some correction and did to some extent, most of the swirls are now gone. However, the deeper scratches are still there so will have to see what pad/polish combination will shift them.

Thanks for reading and sorry about the poor iphone photos!

Some of the kit....

The finished article......

Looks good. Much 3M tape there and sort of unclear why its not on the swage lines. TBH you could save yourself a lot of time - You don't really need any tape with a DA, only with a rotary.

It's still good to use tape with a DA though not quite as necessary but it's supposed to be only at swage lines and changes of material (rubber strips around windows and gaps).

The only time I've seen a bonnet divided like that was to do a side by side before and after comparison.

Good work nevertheless.

I only did it on the bonnet as I had trouble concentrating on a specific area so would complete one section then remove the tape and move on to the next.

Bit OTT bit it seemed to work for a newbie.

Just need to find a pad/polish combination that will get rid of the deeper swirls.....

Looks really nice. LeMans Blue really does look awesome.

I'm eager to give this a go. Just waiting for some nicer weather. I'd love to have a good size garage/workshop to park it in while I do it but I've converted it into a gym instead.

What's the tape running from east to west on the bonnet?

Good job there... More paitence than me on the taping up. I just take the risk of getting a bit of polish on the rubber/trim....

About 12 hours in total. I washed, clayed taped up and started to polish on Saturday and finished polish and wax on Sunday.

I'd definitely recommend it, so satisfying at the end! It was ideal having a warehouse to do it in, probably be ok outside though, might be worth doing it under a gazebo though if the sun is out.
