Hello guys,

Yesterday I dropped my car at BMW of West springfield in MA to get two bent wheels replaced through the wheel and tire warranty I bought. It was strange as after 8 hours I never received a call from them, so when I arrived at the dealer late afternoon, the SA explained that my wheels were approved, but they will be arriving Wednesday, but he had a last ending surprise... he mentioned they didn't notice my car was was a bit low and the ramps broke my bumper. I was very calm the whole time, so before I spoke he said they will send it to their trusted body shop where it will be GLUED??? I didn't know what to say as I have never heard of glueing bumper pieces?? 4 years ago an old man slightly dent my front bumper of my previous car, and I was paid for the whole bumper and the paint job. Now I only want my bumper to how it was... Do you guys think glueing a bumper is a right procedure or should I argue and force them to get me a new bumper? I've got a little angry after thinking that this is the second time the 'DEALER' did it since last year they made a very deep scratch on this same bumper... I have taken my car to many different shops even the NO NO ones, and they have always notice the slight drop without me telling them. Thanks in advance for the input

Unacceptable indeed! Performance BMW in Chapel Hill in North Carolina did that to my friends on accident to his replica aero lip and they replaced it with an OEM one.

Demand to get it replaced accept nothing less. The damage could be more extensive then it seems.look where the fender meets the bumper the gap looks bigger then normal. They could have disaligned other components.

Glue? I bought my cpo from them last year and it was overall a good experience. However, there was a small scratch on my driver's side door that they were not interested in remedying. After some complaining, they did "touch it up". It's not that big of a deal, but I did feel like they were only going to do so much.

If the break wasn't so... rough?? I would say ABS welding would be fine but to get that to line up and smooth out easily won't be easy. It also may end up being a weak point so the next time you scuff the bottom on a parking block, it may just let go again. I think a clean, measured and drilled string of small black zip ties would look bad ass

Fixing that bumper is a waste of time. They'll have a day's + worth of labor time fixing, painting and re-installing. On the surface, the SA may think it's cheaper to fix it but it isn't. Bumper covers aren't horribly expensive at their wholesale cost. If you were to approach their BS with this repair yourself. They would tell you to replace.

They have swiped driver side of my mtech bumper at same dealer, they didn't told me
i saw it before i took the car showed them yelled them they gave me a loaner and fixed it.

OP, you may want to set the expectations now that if the repair is not up to your standards that you would not accept it as a resolution and would ask to have it replaced completely. Or you can demand to have it replaced completely and explain that repairing it would take just as much time and money for a complete replacement. Either way, make sure that you set the expectation that you would need to be happy with the end result before accepting it back.

these are better pics from the bottom part... I don't see how that can be glued and be back to how it was, so I will demand for a new bumper. My other worry is that the brake duct is out of place too and the oil cooler, which connects from this side is kinda blocked, so now I don't know how much damage there is inside those pieces of plastic or if there's some important component that could've been damaged. I will get a word from the dealer either today or tomorrow, so I'll let you guys know how it resolved.

I would be livid. Saying they are gonna do anything short of a brand new one would be laughable.
Its a dealership. Not just some back ally chop shop that you brought your car to to save some money.

Damn man, that is full on cracked into two pieces...I'm no body shop expert but i wouldn't trust whatever technique they use to repair it. Any small bump you may hit afterward could result in cracking it again as its already weakened.

I would bring it to a body shop of your choice and have it fully inspected, and replaced and have them foot the bill. Nothing less.

Today I had a discussion with the SA as to why they wanted to fix the bumper instead of replacing it since at some point I will sell this bumper and I don't think people will give the same value as if it was never damaged + this is the second time my bumper was damaged by this dealer... his very smart answer was 'well if your car can be fixed, are you gonna buy a new car' I showed respect and did not laugh... The SAs are all new there and this is my second and last visit of the year at BMW of West Springfield, MA. I might be taking my car to BMW of hartford for my brake job as I have extended maintenance, and it ill need this service in 5kmi. Does anyone recommend a good BMW dealer around western Mass?

They sound like a bunch of clowns. Id call BMWNA and tell them the situation and I wouldnt expect anything less than a brand new bumper. No repaired shit. Especially if you want to sell it, youd be lucky to get a couple hundred for a repaired bumper.

Fixing it will be more costly and be "weaker" than new bumper.
