Great write-up! I just have a question about your remote wire connection. Does your amplifier only turn on with your engine running?

No, well, kinda.. It turns on with a second push of the start button, so acc power on. If there was a regular turn key it would be the second click....

To put it another way.. when I turn the car off and want to have the amp on without the engine I have to try to start the car without the clutch depressed.

Thanks! I was wondering how it would work using the cigarette lighter remote wire connection. Seems like it works fine for most scenarios. I used a low voltage trigger and my amp stays on whenever the radio is on. I also noticed that the amp stays on for about a minute after I lock the car.

It is done in the E92 M3 standard sound system the same way as this DIY.

Should be nothing, as the underseat enclosure is the same regardless of the type of sound system.

This is the enclosure and woofer of the Premium sound...

It is an approximately 7 ohm woofer:

To make sure that I'm measuring this correctly, this is a Pioneer 8" 4 ohms shallow sub for comparison:

Thus, a SWS-8 can be installed in a Premium Sound-equipped M3 underseat enclosure exactly the same as in this DIY. In theory, a pair of 4 ohms SWS-8 could be powered by the Premium Sound OEM amp with an inmediate 75% power increase just because of the reduction of the impedance, however the OEM amp not necessarily will be stable at that load.

Kudos from a Legend

I just installed the Earthquakes with these spacers at Rick Reus' Orange, CA shop. Everything went really well. Rick said I can quote him:

"Tell those guys they did an amazing job making the fabricated spacers and instructions"

Means a lot coming from a legend!

Take a bow, jtsherri and azwillNJ

(BTW Earthquake themselves refer installers to azwillNJ's instructions if they call the company with questions)

I have a Reus Systems stereo in my 335 and proudly show it off at SoCal events to help Reus sales efforts. For those of you who don't know him -- the best hidden secret in car audio -- Rick Reus engineers arguably the sweetest sounding high-end systems in the world for BMWs and other high-end cars. He has an amazing reputation stretetching back to the 1970s.

PM me for more info. Check out Reus at http://www.reusaudio.com/aboutus.html

Has anyone tried this? I have a 07 335i with Logic 7. Would love to just replace the subs.

I did the install in stages, I installed the subs first then the amp a few days later. With just the subs and no amp there was a significant improvement over stock. And I didn't have any problems. But I only ran like that for like 3 days, so I'm not sure what the long term effects would be.
