Got the letter for my July 08 build car. Have not had any issues going on 12K miles.

Also recieved the letter for my July build, working on 18k at the moment. Had a limp mode, and numerous long starts, but havent killed a HPFP yet.

I don't believe this forum (E90Post.com in general) would survive if it wasn't for Lawdude overseeing the sanity here.

I would feel a lot better if they had an HPFP to install as a replacement which didn't have a fairly dismal failure rate. I don't see any evidence that this has happened yet - 2009 models are still having failures as reported on this forum.

Don't feel too lucky. I had zero symptoms until 19K, then suddenly long starts and rough acceleration. The letter says "only a small percentage of cars..." but that does you no good if you are one of the victims.

All that said this has not effected my enjoyment of the car. The fact is that innovative technology means reliability issues; top reliability means mature technology. I'd rather be on the front edge myself.

got my letter too.. I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. It said something along the lines of... "but you most likely won't have to worry about this, since only a very small percentage of owners have problems.." I am on my 3rd fuel pump... And the job is neither a time consuming nor a expensive job to complete. I have been there and watched it get done. It is really not complicated if you are a mechanic and have the right parts/tools. Its not like fixing the hubble =x though compared to american cars it might seem like it.

Received the letter. Gave me a confidence boost, i.e., BMW's notification of warranty extension does not necessarily mean that the problem is not being fixed. Some high points;
  • "As a commitment to our customers and to demonstrate our confidence in our product, BMW will extend the emissions warranty for the high-pressure fuel pump to 10 years or 120,000 miles, whichever comes first."
  • "The emissions warranty extension for this component applies to your vehicle and is transferable to any subsequent purchaser of your car."
  • "In the unlikely event that the high-pressure fuel pump of your vehicle shows the above symptoms or any other problem, please feel free to call the nearest authorized BMW dealer for an appointment. All authorized BMW dealers will be informed of this warranty extension via a Service Information bulletin."
"No good deed goes unpunished."

Your nav goes down, your seat belt caddy balks, limp mode activates - those are inconveniences. You can still get where you're going. Your HPFP goes out between Valdosta and Folkston and you better pray you don't start hearing Dueling Banjos.

I got mine the other day too.
I was surprised about the mileage though because everybody was saying 100k miles.
It's 10 years/120k miles.
I'm going to use it soon since I'm getting the long cranks.

So is this going to include the carbon built-up on the valves?
It sounds like it's just the HPFP.

i got the letter....it's nice to see they are officially acknowledging there's a problem. The problem I have is that the letter is somewhat vague. I have a feeling they are going to say the current pumps, are updated and not a problem. Watch them say only the original pumps are covered...and if you have/had it replaced with a current pump...those will not be covered. Maybe the reason why 2009+ are not included?

I know the new ones are crap....but my concern is whether BMW is admitting that too, or leaving the 2009's and those who had or will have pumps replaced ...screwed.
