Paint peeling/chipping on rear bumper

After i washed my car today (for the first time, its been rainy all week) I have found some unsightly paint peeling and chipping in the right rear of the back bumper.

Don't know what to do, but im positive that the paint is messed up as its a shade lighter gray than the rest of the car and when i run my fingers through it i feel a difference between it and the rest of the surrounding paint.

Should I talk to my dealership as I just now bought the car exactly a week ago, is this kinda thing even under warranty as the car only has 30k miles on it.

I will post pic's later as I dont have a decent camera on my phone, sorry.

Take it back to the dealer for sure. It may have had a re-paint due to damages from shipping, or it may just be defective.

Let them handle it.

Like I said, it could be a repaint done at the VDC (or w/e that acronym is), which for one reason or another went bad.

It could have also been a repaint from a previous collision or defect when owned by previous owner ......

It was a CPO, and by the Hazing around the window trim and the water spots that littered it I can tell it was hardly washed.

Then again when i got in it the Avg MPG was 24/25

car has a clean car fax report, VIN number's check out, no reported incidents

Two things could of happened.

I know how dealerships work pretty well for I use to be in the business, and they can be shady at times.

They will never say they do this, but sometimes they hire guys to do body work on cite. They just come and tape off areas and do all the work outside. It is very cheap and very stupid. They do shitty ass work.

or

The person that owned the car before you did some work themselves, or they paid for the same type of person to do it.

I messed up my front bumper pretty bad and when I was at the dealership a guy came up to me and said he would fix it for $200 bucks in 2 hours. I laughed and said no thanks buddy for I needed a new front bumper and metallic paint is hard to match.

The dealership will cover it so dont worry. You will have to take it back to the dealership where you bought the car because its their SPO car.

Good luck!

Not surprised. The rear bumper cover is a wear item if you ever park on the street

I wouldn't be surprised at all if there were a few cracks or screw dimples and either the previous owner had a quickie respray done before they turned it in, or the dealership did before they flipped it. I would have expected a dealership to do a halfway decent job on a car they planned to CPO, though.

If you can run your fingers over it and feel it, then it could just be some type of contamination on your bumper. I bought a CPO also and I noticed some discoloration on my back bumper too. I got rid of it when I got my Porter Cable.

I used Menzerna SIP with a LC Orange pad followed by Menz 106 on a LC white pad. Car looked brand new again when I was done.

Post pics!

I found the same problem on my girlfriends 08 Honda Accord coupe. Its only six months old and the paint is peeling on the back bumber underneath the tail lights. I have already taken it to the dealer and they are trying to give me the run around.

99% chance it's a respray. Take it back and have them re-do it. Local dealership may help, but I doubt it.

I had a similiar problem with my car. I had bubbles develop in both of my bumpers. The dealer covered it under warranty. The only delay was that it needed to be inspected by someone from BMW NA.

nuxted, were you ever able to get the dealer to resolve this issue for you? I have just had the same thing occur on a CPO I bought 2 months ago. Seems pretty obvious it was a repaint. I'm preparing myself to battle with the dealer, but would be curious to hear if you got it covered under warranty.
