Alpina E90 123D

Noticed that the President of the company I work for has a new BMW (replacing his Prius). Got chatting with him and found out it is an Alpina E90 123D.

I never realised that was the new 123D engine in these !

That must be a cracking wee car.

e90 123??? are you sure 123? i think you mean alpina e90 d3 which is a 3 series based on the 2.3 bi turbo engine.. it is a supposedly a blast to drive, whilst being very economical...

Yes, I meant the same engine as in the 123D The 2.0 Bi-turbo.

Looks very crisp in white. Subtle, no stripes, just hints at being non-standard. If it doesn't use RFTs (?) it would be such a good all rounder.

123d is a 2.0 twin turbo.

Also why not just buy a D3 is you want a 323d which does not exist LOL

the "glued" bodykit of alpina really does make the car look nice - i prefer the m look of the m-sports package that comes straight from teh factory..

got a 123d coupe, the engine is brilliant, no lag and pulls and pulls and pulls. does not really sounds like a derv once you get going either. get it remaped and its an animal, would give a 130i a run for its money (would not win but come very close).
from what i can gather the d3 is tuned to something like 214bhp which is not allot (204bhp standard), my remap is 244bhp.

also the 3 series is a heavier car that the 1 series so would loose some of its fizz, still be a brilliant drive though and something i would look at very seriously as i want a 3 series derv but can't stretch to a 335d (320 would be to slow from what i drive now).

having experienced the 335D for 2 years now, an Alpina may well be on my next shopping list (not for a while).

Same looks and practicality, little bit of exclusivity, much better ride and feel (that is more important than top trump perfromance figures to me), better economy and still very respectable performance indeed. Seducing.

Go for it Dave,

I still miss mine - don't get me wrong, my coupe is lovely but it's not an Alpina. Will definitely look to get another one in the future - quite fancy getting my hands on a B3 Bi-Turbo Allrad - plenty of power and 4 wheel drive to lay all the power down - be perfect for your neck of the woods

And Alpina certainly know how to do interiors! I nearly got seduced into swapping my 'M' order for a B3 Bi-turbo e93 last summer. Happy I stuck with the 'M', but the Alpina interior was gorgeous.

I was in a D3 at the weekend, and I was a bit underwhelmed by the interior.

It was more like an SE than the M Sport......The gear shift looked quite long, the steering wheel was too thin, and the standard half leather wasn't that nice. Oh, didnt really get the blue dials either.

Mind you, this was all judged from sitting in the back for just 5 mins

Dave, you are aware that I can make your car ride and handle exactly the same as an Alpina B3?!

No doubt, Tony

There must be a quiet little graveyard near you for old, standard BMW parts to go to. Gently filling up.

I have no hesitation about ripping apart and rebuilding my other cars, but my 335D is my runabout. I'd like to keep that car vanilla standard.

But will probably go for Michelin Pilot Sport 2 RFTs next time after hearing the positive feedback on them.
