leaking oil, daddy threw a bitch fit, im F*****!

well today i worked my car was running fine. i go home and sleep for awhile (4 hrs) and weak up to go to the store and i get a phone call my dad was like "ass hole ur car is leaking oil, there is a puddle under the car in the garage" i walk out of the store rightway and i see an other puddle under the car first thing i do is start the car and check oil(ass holes at bmw couldnt put a dip stick) it came out ok right in the middle. then i poped the hood and theres oil all over the cover on the bottem, on the side and where the intake manifold is by the front of the motor and slight oil on the passanger side of the motor.

Questions:

1. How fucked am i?
2. can it be my rear main?
3. Is it the head gasket?

PS. i changed my oil in feb and my car has a symbol to add oil about 3 days ago. i added it right away. and this is what happed

I will up date with pics in a bit waiting for my father to go to bed.

AND i dont beat on my car i havent steped on it in a while..... (june, july)

Seriously you prob just added too much. If the ECU says your oil levels are fine, then you're ok. Thats the biggest issue. Running w/o enough oil isn't good.

Couple of things to check out.

1. Did you put the right kind of oil in? You would never want to blend synthetic and natural motor oils.

2. Clean down everything and see if you have a persistent leak. You shouldn't have been low on oil in the first place. Find out if there's any consistency from where the oil is leaking and go from there. If there is oil EVERYWHERE (sounds like it) then its probably just due to it being over filled. When that happens oil will find places to exit to relieve pressure.

Wipe everything down clean and check regularly.

To make your dad happy ... cat litter on the oil and take to an auto parts store for disposal. While you're there (or if you have some) get some degreaser. My personal fav is Simple Green. Use it at a good concentration (IE > 10:1) and douse the oil spot. Let it sit and hose it off. Wont get rid of the oil 100% but itll help.

Head gasket is easy to replace and not too expensive.

You should change your oil more often.. 9 months is damn of a long time not to change your oil.

The bolts are made of aluminum and from what I hear they are known to break and oil will go all over.

5W30? Someone smack him with a baseball bat right now.

If you're gonna run Mobil 1 you need to be running 0W40. Otherwise stick to the BMW packaged oil or Castrol Syntec European Formula 0W30. You can also use Pennzoil Platinum European Formula Ultra 5W30.

Why do I say this? There's a good reason BMW's run their own brand of oil. Just because the bottle says full synthetic doesn't mean it is a true full synthetic. Seriously, 5W30 is just asking for issues down the road if you plan on holding onto this car for a while.

Probably going to be cheaper to fix the leak and keep the car. Once it is fixed should be good as new.

If you can't deal with a head gasket leak on a BMW you definitely will not be able to afford the repairs on an STI. Not only that I bet your dad would give you more shit for it.

yeah , i think the best thing to do would be, get your own place, and then you can have any car to drop oil wherever you like

a common problem on the 06s and early 07s is the magnesium head cover plus/minus the head gasket. A crack in the magnesium cover, especially around where the aluminum bolts hold it in is common.

bmw switched to a plastic intake cover for subsequently n52 engine models to fix this-mine is also magnesium and its been ok at 57k miles and I beat on it every day of its life so its kind of just hit or miss

Head gasket, or valve cover gasket? There is a big difference between the two, and if you really did have head gasket problems, you'd have some serious engine problems going along with it (like overheating, and lots of smoke).

If it's the valve cover gasket (which it sounds like it is), then it's not a huge deal, just inconvenient.
