I have been told (and will confirm/dis-prove soon) that there is an actual "retrofit path" through ISTA/P for a CIC retrofit. For some reason, this is not widely known or talked about. (is it hidden in ISTA/P?) If that actual retrofit works, part numbers would be accepted based on options/VO and no equipment change would be necessary.
Okay, that being said, no one I know has done this retrofit so its not proven to work/exist....yet. I'm waiting on one more piece, then I will start the retrofit as well and try this. |

And so far, retrofit FSC are sold for a price, repair FSC are free (warranty again). For example, BMW already got the Sirius retrofit FSC codes ordering set up to enable the built-in Sat tuner in the MY2010-on iDrive. Customers will be paying for the codes, the software loading and the Sirius antenna installation. I think that these retrofit FSC codes are more for either used CIC units (doubful) or for a replacement of the current CCC in the Business Nav outside the USA for a CIC without Nav and Voice Control. So BMW could just offer a Business iDrive to Professional Nav iDrive retrofit by just making the customer pay for the retrofit FSC codes. I'm working in getting more info about the CIC retrofit FSC, how to order, price and -in my particular case- if I can get them for free for my purchase of the new CIC. |

Most parts are here!
Well, I am still struggling to figure out the part number for the cable between the USB port (FYI, the USB port is p/n: 6131 9 167 196). I thought I could just buy another LVDS cable since it has two female ends, but I realized all three ports on the back of the CIC are actually different! If anyone has the part number of this USB cable, I need it!
And for the record, the 8-pin CAN connector for the new LCI CID is p/n: 6113 6 954526 - I have the connector and it fits. |

The USB cable has a built-in circuit/filter (most probably a 1-wire voltage sensor for USB), so the HD CID straight cable won't work even if you hack the connectors to fit the USB plugs. I don't know if this is done on purpose by BMW to block any retrofits -I don't know what else to believe after their retrofit FSC fiasco- but what I know is that no dealer parts department has been able to find this elusive P/N anywhere, and the guys that tried are really sharp guys without hidden agendas. I asked two service shop foremen and they did not know either -meaning, they will know if they contact BMW in case of a warranty replacement, is just that they won't ask and won't tell otherwise. Hey guys,
Is there any indication as to whether this would work on a pre-3/07? Is there any DCAN related connections on the back of the CIC? I know the switch to the new CCC (which I believe most of you have) was done at the same time as the DCAN switch, so I'm just wondering whether the pre-3/07 cars will have the correct wires in that location for the retrofit.
