Ohlins are top notch if you were talking about motorcycle dampers, but they are so new to the automotive market. With few offerings and unknown performance and reliability, I personally wouldn't want to "try" the product until it's proven..thats my opinion.
Ohlins would have to go through what the rest of the top notch automotive damper companies went through before they can prove themselves as worthy. Welcome to the forums btw.. Last edited by tibra1; 05-25-2011 at 02:51 PM.. |

I read the Audi guys (Stasis) have been running them for years. Plus Ohlins/stasis offer lifetime warranties on those as long as you send 'em in every 2 years for rebuild. I think those particular coilovers go for over $3000.

Grand Am much better relates to what we use on the streets... "Teams running AST suspension finish in 8 of the top 9 positions in the GS class for the 3rd round of the GRAND AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge." "The GS class, packed full of AST vehicles, took finishing spots 2 through 9 at the Barber 200 on April 9. The #96 Turner Motorsports BMW led the most laps, but relinquished the lead with 4 laps remaining. Manufacturers represented in the mix were BMW, Ford, Chevrolet and Porsche. The AST Suspension -USA teams have had great success with several teams and cars finishing at the top in the first three races of the season." "Doran Racing has been using AST-USA shocks throughout the 2011 GRAND AM season. The Doran Racing BMW 128i finished in second place in the ST class for its first podium of the season." AST Suspension -USA’s general manager, Brian Hanchey said, “We are very excited to see the continued success of our product in one of the most grueling professional race series in America. We have provided a package that is fast and consistent throughout the race. The results really speak for themselves with 9 of the 12 cars running our shocks finishing in the top 11 (GS class).” "GRAND-AM Continental Challenge Series teams utilizing AST-USA shocks include: Turner Motorsports, Roush Performance, Stevenson Motorsports, Fall-Line Motorsports, Bimmerworld, Rum Bum Racing, DeMan Motorsports, Trade Manage Motorsports, BGB Motorsports, Doran Racing and Compass 360 Racing." AST finished in 8 out of the top 9 finishes!!!! |

Yes, I read up on the ASTs and the fact that it has a shorter body thus giving it more travel is one of it's strengths. Nway, does anyone suggest running e36 bumpstops in the front like Dinan does? |

guys, can anyone comment on the Ohlins setup rideheight? Is it possible to stay close(or exact) to M-sport height?

To everyone that is talking mess about the ohlins i know for a fact that its a proven name. Nissan made the r34 skyline z-tune which at that point was the fastest production car on the planet (maybe quickest i cant remember the title i saw it in a magazine) and it was on ohlins. They wouldnt use it on their flagship sportscar if it wasnt the best.

It's about to become moot. AST has come a very VERY long way in maybe 5 short years.

Why is anyone here concerned whether ASTs are better or Ohlins? None of you will ever NEED anything more than AST's 4100 or 5100 line of product since most here are only obsessed with stance, not actual "performance."
The stuff that Ohlin makes, even for their "street" solutions, are far more than ANYONE on this forum will ever need. EVAH.

The Ohlins kit will allow you to get within 5mm of factory ride height on it's highest setting and about 25mm below using the 8" free length springs supplied with the kit.
