Are you sure??

I had an 06 E90 and I never had to put on the auto wipers to de-ice the mirrors.

I would never have though of doing that either if the mirrors had not been working.

Maybe yours was built on a Friday afternoon.

Haven't actually checked to see if this is still the case on the LCI.

On the e46 it was (sensibly) linked to the rear window heater.

and also it must be a tuesday and you must be wearing denims!...mine heat always!!!

bit of thread revival, but quick question how can u get the auto function to work on a car that didnt come with it?

is it simple as replacing the headlight switch with one that has it?

or will need coding and all that palava?!

your need a new windscreen and the sensor behind the rear view mirror at least
