Yeah, they are just trying to make some money by asking for an inspection. The key read is more than enough, and if the car is still under warranty there is no need.

thanks - yeah that's what I figured. I didn't want to call him out directly on the phone... i'll pay $50 more and purchase from another dealer instead. In case anyone was wondering - the finance manager in question works at BMW Pleasanton (eastbaybmw.com)

just to update - I purchased a platinum 7/100 for my '07 335i coupe from Weatherford BMW in Berkeley CA for $3,250. I definitely recommend dealing with David (finance manager) - he was straight forward, showed me the MSRP and dealer cost of each package and offered to match any price from any dealer as long as it wasn't below cost. BMW SF wanted 3,500, BMW Concord wasn't budging much from the 3,900 MSRP (disbelief), and BMW East Bay (Pleasanton) wanted to lure me in by offering to match other prices but wanted to inspect the car first and charge labor.

Thanks for the info. I'll call David as well. I had the same experience with East Bay - where they were looking to charge me an inspection fee which I declined. BMW SF wouldn't budge on MSRP which was weird - and I bought my car there as well but probably doesn't make much of a difference I guess. Thanks for posting your experience.

Hi guys,

are the price for the warranty covers the Mechanical and also the Maintenance?
my local dealer quote me
6/75k for $3750 just the mechanical and
another $2595 for the maintenance.
so total is 6345 for everything

my car is 328i Coupe , Fully Loaded
I think it's too much
I got the quote from BMW of Beverly Hills

Thanks

Yes, the prices seem a little high. There is a internal pricing sheet somewhere on the threads that will give you a better idea of pricing. But 6k for 328i is overkill, save your money and negotiate!

so are the platinum / gold warranty also cover the maintenance?
is it zero deductible? I read from the BMW websites there's $50 deductible.

Thanks

No, the extended warranty is separate from the maintenance warranty.
The platinum/gold extended warranty have a $50 deductible , and if you purchase the maintenance warranty there is no deductible to my knowledge.
However, they are two separate things completely. If you do not have I-drive or a convertible , I would recommend getting the gold + maintenance warranties.

If you get your maiintenance done by the dealer, maybe...if you use an independant shop, definitely not, as you will pay way less with a good independant than you pay for the warranty.

For dealer service, it really depends on how much you drive. If you put a lot of miles on the car, it might pay -- but if you are a typical driver, you won't get enough maintenance during the warranty period to equal what you'd pay if you just did it when it was time.

Note with extended maintenance, they will NOT do it unless the car computer tells them it's ready.

with a gold extended warranty, apart from the 50$ deductible, will they still provide you with a loaner?

Popped into the dealership the other day, they have a program called 6-plus where they have set the shop rates to $110/hr with a two year warranty on parts and labour.

Looks like they are trying to grab some business from local indi shops, a quick google search has shown similar programs from other BMW dealerships in the UK.

If your dealership normally provides a loaner for original factory warranty work then you'll get one for extended warranty work.

So Im a few weeks away from warranty expiration and looking for closely at the 7/70 Gold for my 07 xi. Sucks that the xi is in the same warranty category as the M3 which i assume has to do with the AWD componentry.

Austin BMW was just under $3300 and my local stealership who started at $3650 is now down to essentially $3350 after much back and forth.

I guess I'm willing to pay up to keep it local as I like my stealer and SA. Has anyone who purchased out of state had any experience with the required key scan and paperwork?

CPO vs extended warranty

Ok, I have an 08 335i that was CPO'd when I bought it. That takes it up to 100k miles, correct? Do I need an extended warranty package or will the maintenance package work? Thanks and sorry if this has already been answered.

CPO is 6 years or 100k from in service date. It does not cover maintenance and that plan is generally another $2000...not exactly a steal as it is dependant on your service monitors.

Then again, I just got a quote from a premium independant thinking they would be signifcantly cheaper and I was shocked:

Plugs...$135+150 for labor = $285
Front pads, rotors, sensors...$342, $134, and $25 respectively plus $216 for labor = $717
Rear pads, rotors, sensors...$255, $108, and $27 respectively plus $216 for labor = $390

Then they add in another $25 in fees for waste and shop fees? Im starting to think the stealer isnt that far off?

I would also read your CPO contract carefully. I just read the BMW Gold contract and it clearly defines the dealership as the place where your maintenance and repairs should be done and if anything is done elsewhere that causes a problem it is not their responsibility to repair. That's very broad language and Im sure you can argue DIYer or reputable independant maintenance but it will be up to you to keep good records.

Does the BMW extended maintenance cover brakes? I thought that it was not as comprehensive aas the factory plan in that it covered less of the normal wear items.

I'm sure this information is available from BMW's web site. I would prefer to read and confirm it myself than to trust some random guy's reply.

Anyway, this thread is about Extended Warranty Pricing. Please keep it on topic.
