Thumbs up Kudos to BMW

I have no navi but I just love the BMW bluetooth feature. I got an old motorola v330 tmobile phone. Never had any issues with the BT. It syncs all 99 entries in my phonebook, when I want to make a call, I just select Mobile, scroll thru the alphabetical, drill down to the individual entry and press the knob and a call is made.

This past week, I helped a friend of mine with their Hands Free Link in their new Acura MDX with no Navi. Acura calls it Hand Free Link (HFL) btw. It has voice recognition but does not works very well.

1) You can have 6 phones
2) But you can only have 50 entries in your phone book (for each phone I think)
3) Their HFL system does not sink the phone book automatically (maybe due to the limitation of 50 entries for the phone book)
4) So you have to sit there and manually setup each entry onto the HFL
5) Making a call requires too many steps (I think)
Example: press the Phone button, wait for a beep, say "Phone book", Press on the phone button wait for a beep and say "Listing", the HFL would begin reading out all 50 entries on the HFL phone book but you can press the phone button anytime wait for another beep and say the name of the person you want to call. Then you have to deal with the HFL not recognizing your speech and then you have to repeat that step:sad0147:.

No thanks, I'll take my non-voice recognition bmw BT over the Acura voice recognition HFL. I dont understand what is the purpose of the voice recognition if you are still requires to press a button and wait for a beep each time you speak.

Yeah, it works well. But no sink is included. Maybe "sync" though.

In the past 18 months, I´ve driven about two dozen premium automobiles fairly extensively (average one week), most of which had some attempt at Bluetooth integration. The only really good integration was from BMW.

Keep your v330. I just got a T-mobile Motorola KRZR K1 and I can't get it to sync. Thankfully, my wife's v330 still does. Even though BMW lists the KRZR as a phone that should work, that's only under cingular. T-mobile uses a much later software version.

T-mobile is a German company, yet has the least number of BMW-compatible phones Even the v330 is not listed.

I have no trouble syncing the KRZR with my Garmin Nuvi.

I think the BMW bluetooth software was written as part of a high school science project.

you should see the/hear the bluetooth on the new benzes...i cant even tell when my dad is on bluetooth or not. the mic is so nice and connectivity is easy (once you purchase the 400 dollar piece!!!) but i feel like its well worth it. I have it on my audi too, it connects VERY easily and you can scroll through the phonebook but it is VERY apparent that you are on speaker or bluetooth of some sort.

Thanks for the cofirmation. It was like night and day between bmw BT vs Acura HFL systems. I was very shock because the acura is an 08 model which is newer then my 06 e90.

interesting to know. Yeah, I will keep my v330 for a while. If bmw BT is written by HS students then the acura HFL system is written by kindergarden kids.

IPhone

I have an Iphone and am looking forward to syncing both it, and my itunes library(my incoming car has the ipod interface and I(diotic) drive). My saleperson also has an Iphone and says both will sync perfectly. Since my wife has a new mini which works with it, I am sure there will be no problem as long as your car was built after March of this year (per BMW).

In the past my phones have all had problems with the BMW version of bluetooth, but it appears they have remedied their initial issues.

How well does Bluetooth and address book sync work if you don't get IDrive?
