Thumbs up

I didn't really "get" the whole proper watch thing until I bought a full size Omega Seamaster Auto in 2001. Until Febriuary this year it was my daily and never missed a beat. It's nicely worn in/out and hasn't been serviced in that time as my AD told me not to bother if it wasn't gaining/losing time.

I've recently also bought a Gen.2 Omega X-33 Speedmaster which has taken over daily duties. It's fantastic, but bloody expensive for a quartz watch!

I'm now saving for a nice Panerai or IWC. Mmmmmmmm

With you on the Panerai

I am very tempted with the 10% down remainder on interest free. Only problem with that though, is there is no wiggle room on the price

Looks like you guys rate Panerai's, and i could not agree more cant fault its time keeping and i think it is understated not showy at all because not everyone is aware what a Panerai is. Hardly a gold Rolex and similar money!

Since i have had mine it has increased by £500 on the RRP so i could pretty much get back what i paid for it! So not a bad investment in 12months. Panerai has one of the best residual values out there. Another year and i could probably sell it for a profit as the luxury watch brands tend to have a 10% increase each year!

I bought my first 'proper' watch for the new year. It's this http://www.tagheuer.com/the-collecti...=CV2A10.BA0796
In brown, (with the silver strap, brown one looks naff) it shows up maroon in the sunlight, absolutely mesmirizing. Don't smoke, don't drink, spend hours finding the cheapest gas elec insurance etc. Work fookin hard, so why not? Makes me smile.

OP, do it, you won't regret.

It's fun exchanging opinions don't you think? Well I do. Take my posts with a lorry load of salt and join in - don't get all huffy and outraged.

It's also rare to have someone else agree with me... ;-)

Caaaaalm down - yes you think I bang on about an idyllic lifestyle (if I had an M5 Touring then maybe...) but I don't see it - it's just different. Some/many would hate it here, get bored, hate stoving their M Sport spoiler on the driveway, want i-drive, etc, etc. Suits us but not everyone - so what?

Some subtle Panerais (apparently not the best of movements though) and Patek Phillipe DO look classy but they are rare spendy. "Mid" range flashy watches (a lot of Rolexes, Breitlings, Tags, etc) all look too shiny and blingy to me.

As for the wedding - I didn't wear a watch. After all, it wasn't as if timing was of any importance... ;-)
I was just thinking yesterday that you have been back on the forum for a few weeks, but somehow had not started a single argument ....

My take on this;

I have two watches. The first I purchased for myself about 15 years ago, a TAG Sport 2000(i think), all Ive done is batteries and one service, great watch and very discreet, and I can wear it anywhere.

My 2nd is an Omega Planet Ocean, purchased two years ago, as a treat to myself.

Neither watches are flash, but are both very practical, and suit my lifestyle perfectly.

Value wise, the Tag is worth approximately half what I paid, but will never be sold, and go straight to my eldest boy. The Omega, I could get my money back for.

My wife was also of the opinion of what all the fuss about, and never had a watch, until I purchased her a TAG Link 3 years ago, and now she never takes it off.

Horses for courses and all that

very nice! I should of paid a few more hundred and got this one instead . I agree, you work hard to spend money on some of the better things in life so enjoy it (cant take it with you). I think the only $ piece of jewelery a guy should own is a watch.

Couldn't agree more! I have a Tag 6000 Chronometer and a Planet Ocean and Oli sums it up perfectly "Neither watches are flash, but are both very practical, and suit my lifestyle perfectly"

Planet Ocean is rather large though
