Nate.......

Most images are with Canon 5D and 35 1.4L
Shot at f1.6 or f1.8
Shallow DOF is all 'in camera' and NOT photochopped.
Only photoshopin is: levels adjustment and some burning or dodging.
Like old school darkroom printing....

rockin' the BMW bucket hat !!

Token shot of Nate hanging out with Daddy on the set of the CBS tv series Cold Case, where Daddy is the 'A' camera operator....

This thread would be pages on pages, so I'll draw the line with these images.

enjoy

Yes. It's the lens that gives the Dslr it's quality.
Aside from the sensor that is.
A CCD sensor will be more harsh, as opposed to a CMOS sensor.
But, the quality of this lens with worth the $1,500 price tag.

You need a really sharp, fast (f1.4) lens.
Shoot at or close to it's minimum focus ability and shoot close to wide open.

It's the apeture, focal length and distance that makes the gorgeous bokeh.
Bokeh being the soft, pastelly background, out of focus-ness.....

The camera is only the box, it's the lens that really makes the difference.

I'll always tell people, get a 'good' camera and then spend all the money you can on lenses !!!

Wow thats a cute kid =]

Love the pics, great shots the bokeh works great with the pics, and his eyes just grab your attention right away.

JBake, if you have a Canon DSLR, check out the 50mm F/1.8, 85mm F/1.8, or 50mm F/1.4 (I'll leave out the L because if you're still learning those 3 should be just fine). The 50mm F/1.8 is a great lens for the price, at F/1.8 it provides the bokeh you'd want as well as the sharpness and its only ~$75. The only problem you're going to have with it is the AF hunts like crazy, which is why you might want to look at the 50mm F/1.4 or the 85mm F/1.8 (depending on the focal length you're going for) those primes are great lenses for the price! =]

Very good advice.
I had an 85 1.8 and it's a great lens.
The 100 f2.0 is also great for telephoto prime lens.

On a 30D, the 50 1.4 will have the angle of view of about a 65mm.
It's a nice walk around lens and can get you close this quality.
