Luminics JDM yellow bulbs vs OEM foglights *pics*

Yeah, I don't quite want to associate my car with "JDM" stuff,
but its just a bulb. so cut me a slack.

So tonight, I got to install Luminics JDM Yellow foglight bulbs.

*Installation warning:
If you have big hands, oh wow. This is going to be a hassle for you.
Being an asian, we don't have big hands. You get the idea.
and even with my small hand, it was tough to reach. I got scratches everywhere.
Installation procedure is in E90POST DIY section. One clip and about 6 bolts
will give you access. Make sure your wheel is facing whatever direction that
is opposite(if you are installing driver's side, turn the wheel to the right).
Once you take the plastic piece out, you'll see the foglight right there.
Can't miss it. If anyone wants detailed DIY with pics, I can do a write-up.

*Brightness:
To be honest, as for visibility, you can see in the pics. Not much
better with the yellow bulbs, but we'll see during foggy days or rainy
days. Its not any worse though. Thats good thing. The pictures
somehow exaggerated the white output somehow. In reality,
they are pretty much the same in terms of brightness. So don't let the pictures fool you.

*Color:
I've been involved with lots of different bulbs, so I knew the deal.
I didn't expect much out of these bulbs at all, but damn. Yellow output
is quite impressive. It has that IS300/Corevette yellow foglight look. (for reference).
Color was CLEARLY different, it was Yellow(luminics bulbs) vs White(OEM bulbs).
It also looks 10000000x better when you have Xenons on. My OEM foglight completely
looked like crap compared to the yellow ones. My girlfriend was here too,
she didn't like it at first. When I turned the xenons on, she nodded and said "keep it".

*Conclusion:
I was pretty much happy with the result.
$25 bucks WELL SPENT & 100% satisfied with my first mod to my e90.
I recommand these to anybody who is looking for a different look.

Remember, these pictures don't do justice. It looks much better in real life.

Does the color of the bulb really makes much of a difference in terms of visibility during foggy condition? I was under the impression that "fog lights" are lights that, number 1, installed lower to the ground, and number 2, has a beam pattern that cuts off any upward beam. Both function are meant to be able to illuminate the road from as low of a location as possible so to eliminate any glare. In addition, the lights on our cars are called free-form foglights, which means its beam are not specifically made as a projector foglight would be, and thus are really consider "driving lights". It certainly looks nicer imo, but will the color improve visibility?

Good points timzerofive. I've mentioned the brightness of the bulbs.

It hasn't been foggy here so I really wouldn't know. It will rain though, so
we'll see tomorrow night. From reviews of Luminics bulb owners
(these bulbs are really popular among import tuners), the bulbs are
actually functional and looks good.
Yellow supposed to be better during foggy/rainy days compared to plain
white ones, thats why some luxury manufacturers add yellow foglight option.

I'll will provide additional review as I gain more experience with these.
I just got it installed few hours ago, and have not driven it since then.

I'm still confused on bulb wattage. It says it's 80w right? But is that really a 55w draw and it's "comparable" to 80w output. Or is it really an 80w draw?

thanks longtran. make sure to post some pics when you get 'em installed!

obLu, as for the Luminics JDM Yellow bulbs i've installed, they claim the followings.

Wattage (draw): 37.5
Wattage (output): 110
Color: JDM Yellow
Color Temp: 2500K
Warranty: 90 Days

37.5w draw, and 110w output. Which i honestly think its marketing crap.
Its as bright as OEM bulbs. thats the best I can tell you.

Only thing I'm making sure is I don't fry the wiring or melt the cover. Back in the days of halogen headlights a buddy of mine thought it a wonderful idea to replace his normal headlight bulbs with 80w and ended up melting his wires.

Not that you'd be driving with fogs on all the time, but ...

obLu, I understand where you are coming from. I wouldn't risk myself with stock wiring harness. I always turn on my foglights when I drive around(show off purpose, it looks so damn clean with my alpine white). Been few months like this now, and no problems. Bulbs still good as new.

Our E90's OEM foglight color output is similar as honda/volvo/nissan/toyota/etc etc, so I guess it reminds you of all the other cars?

I change my fogs to the JDM yellow. There is not much difference is visability while driving but they do look better. There is an easier way to change them than taking out all seven screws though. You can just jack one side until the tire is off the ground and right by the tire below the panel for the headlights, there will be two screws. Just remove both and pull the plastic away from the bumper. This will reveal the fog light and then from there just squeeze the sides of the plug and pull down. After that just turn the light and remove. Do the reverse when installing. Its like honestly five min. per light.

Purchase them at Honda-tech.com Classfied sections.
There are very good deals there sometimes.

Poldim, you are right. I didn't realize how white they are until I took those pics.
Then I realized, its just how yellow those bulbs are, making the OEM look so damn white.

How is your HID foglight conversion coming? You should post up a detailed DIY instruction while you are at it. I might be interested in near future when I get that "Crave" for new mods again.

^ don't they also have shipping charge?

I remember that site. I was going to buy it from there until I got mine from Honda-tech for $22 shipped or something.

Thats the status, and then another weel or so to get them here from Cali...

Maybe I'll do it during the last week in February, if I'm not snowed in or freezing outside...
