wheel sealant/wax

is it advisable to seal/wax a wheel before it is put on the car to make it easier to clean brake dust?

It will very definitely make a difference on how hard to clean. Try WheelWax or RejeX.

I hear good things about wheelwax but never tried it. I personally use Meg Cleaner wax on my wheels, cleans them and protects them well.

RejeX lasts for a couple of months and the brake dust comes right off with the hose, a little simple green if the dust is really on there.

I already have Poorboy's wheel sealant. It should be much easier to apply with the wheel off the car.

Absolutely. That's exactly what I did. In fact, you might want to consider putting 2 coats on since it is so easy. One thing though....make sure your wheels are clean before applying. I actually washed mine, then clayed them, then did the sealant. That's a bit of overkill...but it's just sooooo much easier to work on your wheels before they're on your car.

I never thought of claying them. I will do that as well. Overkill is what I tend to do when taking care of my car.

I suspect WheelWax might be more advertising then substance. Never heard it being mentioned among pro detailers, they usally apply "regular" products.
