Poor service on 335d (2nd time round FFS)

Just had the 335d in today for its 2nd service. WHAT A JOKE
Was quoted 600 quid but as it needed discs all round and an inspection it cost me including vat over 1100 squid

On top of that it was filled with the correct amount of oil AGAIN (REMEMBER LAST time they left it under the minimum mark) well it was half way between the min and max, so they added half a litre.

Then i check the service book and they put in there my car had 60k on it When it infact has 37k... so they have messed up my service book with unsightly crosses to cross out the WRONGLY filled in mileage

So once AGAIN i feel let down by BMW and there shitsie dealerships.

On the ONLY plus side they have ordered me two new door handles and also a new passenger seat base as it was squeeking. But i garantee the door handles wont match the car when they arrive.

Oh yeah i also asked to keep my old brake discs as i honestly cant see them being worn out already. So will get them independantly checked.

If they were shite the first time why did you go back?????

And as for the discs, surely there must be some independent Beemer specialists around you? They would have done em cheaper

My colleague at work has just had the new handles fitted (sparkling graphite) and they match perfectly - well the did stand out a little but only 'cos they were clean!!

The parts come pre-painted from Beemer and should match perfectly - your car paint will still be nice and fresh (not aged and weathered) so should be spot on matey

why because they quoted 400 quid cheaper than the other dealer near me, but then bumped it up by 500 quid. Im sure the other garage would have done the same.

I want FBMWservice history for warranty and also re-sale value thats why i got bmw to do the service.

Ill pitty with you on that one..... some garages must pay peanuts and as a result attracts the monkeys

Make your feelings known to them, they should play the game.... tell them thats going to throw up issues if you sell the car, the milage looks fiddled.. see what the say?

Main dealers ?

I read your thread and have to agree that it does seam bmw dealers are complete t--- now ,I have issues with my rusty hubs and spent a great deal of time yesterday discussing my options with them.I left it that on my understanding that even if they were replaced (highly unlikly) they would only go rusty again ,so would they please advise of a effective repair ie what paint can i use to cover the unsightly rust issue.I was told we will find out and whatever happens we will phone you tomorrow ,What a suprise i never got the phone call.

This is all good because im really going to loose it with them f------ w------,The jumped up service guy said it wasnt a big deal ,Well i think it is a very big deal.I asked if it was his car and he spent 35k off his money how would he feel ,I am so looking forward to going in there next wed ,I am more than happy to fall out with them i really am sick of the useless w------ .

The last three times i have been in its all been f****d up by there useless staff ,I even had a courtesy call from them asking if i was happy etc etc ,I asked are you trying to be clever and went mental ,they sent a service tech round in the hour and sorted my issues WTF.

My e90 was in recently for water in the indicator in the wing .No fault found 1hr40mins warrenty claim on the job card ,next time i cleaned my car water in the indicator WTFstraight on the phone ,sorry sir we only checked the headlights ?????????????????????????????????? why i told you it was the wing indicator lamp ,loads of apologies and can i bring it back and we will sort it ,

my wifes mini cooper just went in for two smart repairs and service plus two wheel refurbs at £75 plus vat each .Well f--- m- one they completly refurbed and painted a chrome finish silver the other they just painted the rim .I phoned and asked wtf had gone wrong and to give them some credit they have given me a courtesy car and taken the mini back for the week to get the wheels sorted ,but tomorrow it is returned and better be 100 perfect or i will go mental .

My next task is to sort my e90 hubs and special issue gold fish bowl mounted on front wing. I am getting tired of my local dealer and mentioned it to bmw gb hq on wed ,I really think i will get new hubs/discs it has become my mission to get what im owed from them wish me luck

Carlos demand a replacement service book it there problem .I must admit im not suprised to hear your discs are a little worn by my understanding you push the dxb quite hard there is a price to pay do you not think 37k is reasonable for a set of discs? .

My Brother has a bmw and his pads and discs didnt reach 30 k miles ,he rides sports bikes and drives his bmw car flat out ,it scares me being a passenger in there when he drives ,I said the same to him there is a price to be paid where he differs from Carlos is he doesnt give a shit about the cost as long as it stops him ,

Sorry if i have judged you harshly carlos but have they done the job of fitting the discs and pads properly to your liking ? have a good look around them and if you are happy with the work try modifying your driving style they may last longer regards mr scooba

Carlos,£1100 is not a bill I would like to have to folk out on the car but as they say you wore them out so I guess you have to pay. 37k does sound ok for a car that is driven hard so I do not see a problem. Put a pick on here and Roofer or someone with his knowledge will tell you straight off if they are worn.

What is scary is a 2nd service, discs and new tyres is £2,000. What we all have to get in perspective is that these costs are small in comaprison to the depreciation.

The colour match will be fine, Carl.

Only someone with your 'expert eye' may notice minor colour imperfections.

70K on an 07 plate, holy crap!!!!

But anyway, that sounds loads for the brakes. A full set of brakes for the M3 only cost me 600 and that was with parts from BMW. You are under no obligation to get bmw to fit the brakes, anyone can do it and the warranty will still be valid.

Carlos,

I have nothing but sympathy for you having to stump up £1100 for a SERVICE. I took mine in for an "oil change service" at 18,000 and this ended up costing me £300+ VAT and I thought this was OTT.

Think I'll shop around and get a fixed service quote (replacement parts aside) when I am due a real service later this Year.

Dealers really do take the pi££. I don't trust any of them. If I had the time and inclination I would sit over the mechanics and supervise everything they do and check against the service sheet they price and then offer to re -evaluate their charges

Inflated bills are mainly down to the riduculous labour rates they charge. I am a Contracts / Cost Engineer (bean counter) and it's second nature for me challenge rates etc.

There should be a Government body that regulates dealers labour rates a bit like with the electric and gas suppliers. The car industry is massive in terms of trunover and it's contribution to the economy and delaers have been getting away with day light robbery for Years and you and I have been conditioned to expect a big bill with vastly over recovered garage overheads etc.

How have you judged me harshly mate?
Either way they seem to think most brakes dont last any longer than 2nd service anyhow. Just seems so steep for a fricking service.

Sorry to hear of all your woes Mr Scooba, try another dealer. Dealers can be worlds apart from each other. Good luck mate

I could do with showing them to roofer actually for analysis. ROOFAY is that oKAY?

Depreciation is an issue for all of us. Miles is coming down on mine, by the time she is 3 years old she will have average miles im hoping.

Man im so with you on that, i could quite happily watch the fookers all day working on my car, making sure they are treating her with the 110% respect she deserves..

also did i mention they did 7 miles in my baby. DO YOU think this is excessive?

7 Miles does seem a bit on the high side - they have probably gave her a good thrashing. I wonder if they have noticed your 335d has been mapped?

Dealer may have reflashed your ECU with a software upgarde and you could have lost your DMS re-map. I would be interested to know?

You should be buying service inclusive !
http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/servicepackages/

£1635 would get all servicing/disks/pads/wipers for 60k or 5 years, bargin !!

If your buying a new bmw and keeping it for 3 years or 50k miles, it's a no brainer.

Can someone explain to me how the brake discs can be worn out so soon when the car is fitted with an electronic wear indicator for the brake pads?

Unless they are somehow being used improperly surely the discs should be good for maybe two or three sets of pads?

In my E60 I had to have new discs and pads at 34000 miles, the discs were apparently worn below the required thickness. It did seem to me that this is standard for BMW to treat discs as consumable items.

They used to hit me for new discs and pads on most services when I had company cars. As I wasn't paying I didn't worry.

Now we have condition based servicing and brake pad thickness monitors I can see that I'm on target to get 40-50K miles out of my pads.

Shouldn't discs last longer than pads? Aren't the pads the part that is supposed to wear?

Lay a 5p on the disc against the lip. If the height of the lip is level, or higher than the 5p, its worn beyond limits.

I have a second inspection due, they will only be changing the oil/filters, as everthing else will be in remarkably new condition.

Should be a ratio of 3 to 1.
