Waxing/Buffing Tips

Just need some advice on the finer details of waxing and buffing. More specifically, no matter how careful I am, I get a few swipes on the rubber molding (i.e., around windows, roof seams (E93)etc...). Last time I waxed, I immediately wiped off those swipes. However, those swipes have now turned white and it drives me nuts.

When you wax, do you try to stay a few inches away from the rubber molding? Do you just do the major surfaces (trunk lid, hood, doors) and avoid doing the smaller areas where contact seems inevitable like the a-pillar which is just about 2 inches wide?

Also, a day after my last wax I found small spots where I apparently didn't buff well enough. I noticed it when the car was in the sun and attributed it to doing the wax in the shade. But since then I have noticed more and more. I have hand washed my car three times now and I continue to find small spots I missed during buffing. I'm extremely detail oriented and find it hard to believe I have missed these spots during the last three wash / dry cycles. I've also noticed a lot of white dots which seem like remnants of my last wax. No matter how much I touch up these white dots each time I wash/dry I find more. Is this a normal experience?

You can always tape off rubber or anything you don't want to stain with wax residue. I also like AIO products even on rubber or plastics.

You need to use a different brand of wax/polish that does not leave those white marks on the plastic bits. I use Zaino AIO and wipe it all over the plastic on purpose and it does not stain or leave the white chalky residue you are seeing.

I just used prima banana gloss today for the first time... pretty slick stuff, doesnt stain trim, and doesnt dry white! lasts 6-8 weeks apparently (says so on the bottle)

I liked it especially because it didnt streak and was super easy off!
