Tire recommendation for e90 328xi

Hey all! I just ordered some new rims and here are the specs I will be running with them

Rims(Apex EC-7, Anthracite)
Front: Rims 18x9 offset 31 with 235/40/18
Rear: Rims 18x9.5 offset 43 with 265/35/18

I personally haven't enjoyed the stock run-flats on the car so not sure if I want to get some of those again (it is what my bmw dealer is recommending). What are your reccomendations?

Thanks!

Garrett

Budget is around $1000 however it is pretty loose and am willing to go slightly higher to get good quality tires. As for driving conditions I live in upstate NY so it is pretty snowy but the roads are well maintained here. Driving style is pretty aggressive I'd say . Looking for all seasons I should have mentioned that earlier sorry for the confusion.

I think the Continental DWS are a popular all season choice, but I personally have no experience with them.

Consider that the ratio you have selected (235/265) gives you a slightly larger rear tire, which according to some is not ideal (others say its fine, but it can't be a coincidence that ALL BMW stock stagger fitments for 4wd have the bias, no matter how small, toward the front tire being bigger). 225/255 is the stock 18" and 19" fitment from BMW. Personally, I run (due to previous owner) 235/275 on 19s, which is only a 0.5% difference, but again a bigger rear tire, and I haven't had any issues, BUT, when I change the tires in a few days, I will be going down to 225/255 for this reason and this reason alone (to have them as close as possible (0.4% difference) AND favor the larger front tire).

This chart is really handy... http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1050762

Yeah I used that chart I am running a .4% difference just like you will but with 235/265 instead of 225/255 I was looking more for specific tire brand suggestions! Thanks though

I am currently running a staggered setup on E90 328xi with 235/265 18" V701s with Continental DWS for around 600 miles (changed them back in October 2014)

Came from 17" 225 square ContiPro Runflats (sucked)

If you want all season tires, DWS is a great choice to go for, lot of people are using DWS on staggered setup..
if you are willing to keep 2 sets (Summer + Winter) then there are tons of choices for high performance tires

So far, I have ran DWS in rain, sun, snow (no winter setup for me) and they have really performed good, no complaints as of now

The Reviews on TireRack are great as well

Love these tires, this was my last purchase thru TR. I have not had any issues with anything with the exception of the speedo being 2 mph off. Not sure how it will react with X drive!

I would also lean towards the Continental Extreme Contact DWS if you're looking for good all-season tires for driving in upstate New York.

No probs, I just wanted to point out what I learned; that the front really should be bigger than the rear. Note the chart has these fitments in blue, and bigger rears in yellow. According to BMW and some forum users, you want the blue fitments. Sorry to reiterate, I just wanted to be sure you understood I was referring to the front being bigger than the rear more than the actual sizes. That's why despite the fact that I'll be losing a little width, I will be swapping to 225/255 on my next set.

for what its worth, I'll be gaining some of that width back by going with Michelin Pilot Super Sport, a famously 'wider than stated figures' tire. But that won't help you cos you want all seasons. I'm rambling...forgive me.

No problem for explaining yourself! You are however reading the chart slightly wrong I think. The blue is just the recommended size by BMW. The yellow are any other offsets that should work fine (less then 1% difference). When that yellow number is negative that is when your rear wheels are larger then the fronts. The setup I am running still has larger tires in the front compared to the rear just like yours

You are right, I had foolishly assumed the color coding was negative/positive f/r ratio, but you are right, its just blue for BMW recommended. Sorry for my confusion.

So before I order the tires you guys think this will fit fine? Without any fender rolling necessary?

The wheel and tire specs you listed in your first post, SHOULD fit an e92 xi without fender mods. You might want a 10mm spacer in the rear to match the 'flushness' of the front (without a spacer I think the front will look like its poking more than the rear), even then I doubt you'll need a roll, but there is a small possibility, gonna depend what you are lowered on. Even if it does need a slight roll, its a nothing job. I am rolled in the rear and I don't think I even needed to for mine (9.5+38 with 275). Like I say, only concern is that the front will look like its sticking out more without a rear spacer, which THEN may necessitate a roll. Even with the spacer, without a roll, I think the rubbing will be very slight, if any at all (only with full passengers on a rough road at speed), so you can try them and then decide if a roll is worth it down the line.

Hey everyone! I was going to run the setup I posted earlier until I was told that a 235/40/18 tire won't fit on a 18x9 rim. So I was wondering if that is true then could I run 245/40/18 and 275/35/18 (for 18x9.5). Would this work without any fender rolling necessary? (I have an e90 LCI 328xi)

Someone's talking out their ass. You can get a 235 on a 10.5", let alone a 9" wheel. It ain't pretty (actually, some people seem to like it) but it can be done.

http://www.tyrestretch.com/10.5_235_..._235_40_R18_2/

This is what a 235 ona 9" wheel looks like, not even stretched...

http://www.tyrestretch.com/9.0_235_35_R18/

I believe you will have issues with 245 up front.

Gary,
I'm in Northern Ontario (Canada) and have 225/45R17 Fronts and 255/40R17 Rear. What can you recommend for a set of winter tires? Am I better getting a set of steels with the same offset?

Most winter tires have been sold out for the season for quite some time now. If you can find them, I'd suggest the Bridgestone Blizzak WS80 or Michelin Xice Xi3.

Thanks for the reply. As you said, most are sold out. I ended up getting a set of Nokian R2's

When I was looking for DSWs they were out of stock for 265 size couldn't find out anywhere in the country. They seem v popular.
I got another option from a good shop for General G Max As-03 high perf all season tires. After around 35k miles they are still going strong.

Also there is a new DWS coming out in May I think. It will be the DWS 06. An updated version of the very popular DWS. One of the things that is said to be improved is the steering response on dry roads which is one of the few criticisms cited over the years for this very popular tire.
