WIP: Blapunkt THA 555 + sws-8 upgrade
sorry for my bad enligsh, please bare with me.
so this is what i did so far. i have the business system in my european car. wich means woofers, speakers from philips. they pretty much sucks, they are just OK sometimes. as i read alot of the guides and threads on the forum. i thought this was going to be a easy, fast and pretty neat install. so, the only thing i have done this far, is chaning the subs to 2x earthquake sws-8 4 ohms. since my bmw dealer ordered the wrong speakers i have to wait another week for the l7 midrange speakers for the front doors. so i removed both front seats, and called my friend. we later took the subs home and dremeled the enclosure and use some kind of rubber and something called alumebetyl or something like that too isolate the side where the speaker is. then we used as the guide here on e90post said, dremel some lexan and hot glue it to the whole where the speaker cable is. so we put back the subs, and the seats and tried connecting the amp to test. sound pretty much still sucks, it wasnt really notable. anyway, i dont have folding rear seats so we had troubles making the seat go away, only the part of the seat wear you sit, was easy to move, but somehow we manage to hide all the cable and made them run to the trunk. we later put everything back together. i must say, the seats took us HOURS. never EVER remove the front and passanger seat. we didnt have good tools, but still. it took us hours to get it right and get them too fit proparly. we tested the bass and it was much, much beter after paralell connecting the subs to the amp. but i am still not satisfied, the bass isnt THAT deep. and i havent change the spekaers and added tweeters- will this increase my deep bass experience and make the sound A LOT better, of will this all be a dissapointment? btw, we also put back the grill on the of the sub. people say not to put it back but i need it there so people wont accidently deestroy the subs wich dirt or by seeing it. did i do anything very wrong? did u do the upgrade? |

- Are you using thePnP harness?
- Did you connect the 12V power of the THA555 directly to the battery? - Did you select "low pass" at the subwoofer crossover switch? - What is the subwoofer low pass crossover frequency? - Are you using the included bass remote control knob? |

You need the right Torx socket for the seat bolts. You need a #1 Phillips for the speaker grills. These do strip easily if you use a power driver on them or the wrong size. They are soft metal. Then you need the right Torx driver for the woofer itself. You have to pull the carpet back to get to the screw locations, and if you use a power driver and you slip, you could easily gash the SWS-8 surround. If you don't have the right tools, it's nearly impossible. If that was so hard you discourage others from ever trying it, you may want to rethink this do-it-yourself idea... |

it wasnt impossible, and we didnt have the wrong tools. but we could of have used better tools.
we used the right torx, guess it was T50 or something. but the seats where not as easy as we thought, i would not do it again. not the seat. they took us hours to remove, not to talk about putting back. - Are you using thePnP harness? - Did you connect the 12V power of the THA555 directly to the battery? - Did you select "low pass" at the subwoofer crossover switch? - What is the subwoofer low pass crossover frequency? - Are you using the included bass remote control knob? - yes - no, i used the 12v from the radio harness - no - i dont know exactly, but im sure i didnt change the original amp settings, pic below! - yes, im using it. did put it on max also. im using the original settings, think they look something like this http://www.miamicenter.cl/imagenes/p...ha555_side.jpg what should i change? what did i do wrong? i will get the l7 speakers next week i guess. |

Unless your amp is defective somehow, your problem is the installation.

changed settings. i found a guy who posted his settings, and i practically used the same settings, i choose low pass on, on mids. and the bopping and rattling sound seem to dissapear. bass is much deeper and better.
changing to l7 mids and adding l7 tweeters in the front monday. |
