I downloaded the map via the piratebay link, and used imgburn on my verbatim dvd+r @ 4x, worked perfectly. First time you insert into the drive will tell you new map detected, please shut down for 5 minute then restart. I waited about 10 minutes, and voila!

1) buy disc: dealer ($200), online ($35-50) ; not making judgements do what you will.

Disc Selection: I determined which disc I needed and bought on www.bmwnavdvd.com. they have Idrive and newer model discs.
I purchased the 2011 BMW North American Map DVD Professional Region 2 (West) DVD. *You don't have to purchase both DVDs if you don't need maps to both regions of the country.

2) Install: a) push start button once to power-up nav screeen
b) remove old disc
c) insert new DVD
d) message will appear to shut down system, turn car completely off and walk away for 5 minutes.
e) come back and power-up nav screen - new nav should load up in seconds.

Note: According to what I've read: The disc doesn't change or upload any Nav firmware, it only loads new maps and data from the disc. So, it is very simple, quick, and can't do any damage to your NAV system. The 5 minute wait period is merely to clear the cache (memory) populated by the old disc data, and allow uploading of the new map data to the cache, which assists in the maps working more quickly.

3) Activate Traffic Ticket Avoidance Features: to turn on traffic/red light camera or radar traps go to NAV, INFO, On Location, car and travel. Select the desired choice and enter.
Then select distance to search and start search. Exit once the location results appear. The locations that returned will be add to your map. they will show up in any map mode used, whether main or secondary screen (if using dual screen modes). I choose the max range possible to get the most locations on my map.

Thanks for the help!!!!

PM me if interested.

Question on FSC codes for 2012 DVD NAV UPDATE

Did you buy the codes from the dealer to update the maps or do you recommend any online sellers of the codes??? Are these sites frauds? Or are they able to get the codes legitimately??? Recommendations?!!

there are no codes to buy. You buy a new dvd, either from a dealer or online, insert it in dvd drive and the new maps load. I chose to buy online as you can see in the initial post for this thread, and had a great experience.

+1

I just downloaded it and installed it successfully too. My car came with the wrong region so I am stoked that it is finally working properly.

You have to download the ISO. There really is no way to give you the ISO besides mailing it to you. I just clicked on the link in this thread, downloaded it, then opened it with Image Burn (http://www.imgburn.com/) and burned it to DVD.

The new maps you are talking about are an updated version of iDrive. You can not update your map graphics on the older version of iDrive. The new maps (i.e. 2012) only add new roads, points of interest, etc.

Interesting post.
I just got a 2009 335i with iDrive (the one with internal HDD) and when I follow above procedure, it says "Format unreadable". I burned the exact ISO to a DVD twice and same problem.

Am I doing anything wrong? Is there a separate flow for cars with HDD or something?

This is for CCC iDrive systems only. Yours is a CIC system. It requires different disks and an FSC code to activate the disks. The disks are cheap (under 10 bucks or so I think) but the FSC code can only be obtained through a dealer* and costs about $300.

*I've seen some pirated/hacked codes and other third-party activations on the Internet, but I've got no info on those.

Thanks Genepool. More I spend time on this forum, more I learn that I dont know sh**

Found this:

http://forums.5series.net/topic/1011...ew-idrive-cic/

I have factory warranty and maintenance till 100K so a bit reluctant to do this. Ugh, but I want the new update and possibly ability to stream music through bluetooth without attaching a2dp receivers.

Basically I am trying to find ways to update my nav and possibly iDrive software.

Current version: 1.2.8, 2009-1

I tried the DVD and USB method but no luck. It doesnt detect the USB and complains format unreadable for DVD.

So you want to upgrade your CIC to a different CIC?

Your steps look correct (I assume you left out the "uncompress the iso" step after "download the file"). The CCC DVD drives are finicky. Try a different brand of DVD or burning at a lower speed. Mine have always worked on the first burn. Also try blasting out the DVD drive with computer "Dust Off" spray.

Will this work for iDrive with a hard drive?

Ditto@ BMdubya.

I have the same setup, iDrive with HDD. I tried burning 2 DVDs(now trying a different brand) and also a USB stick but no dice.

See screenshot of what I am burning(ISO) in case it looks totally bizzare to you guys.

Thanks again.

NO, NO, NO!

If you have a CIC (if it has a harddrive it is a CIC) then this will NOT work. These disks only work for the CCC iDrive systems.

Ah, gotcha. Makes sense.

So without going to the dealer and paying a fortune, what are my(our) options?

You could try these guys, but I'd wonder about their credibility:

Do so at your own risk.
