European Delivery option in Canada?

Has anyone here in Canada done the European Delivery option?

I saw some figures on US sales elsewhere on this site but just wondering what kind of discount you can get through BMW Canada.

Thanks.

By the time all is said and done, you will have paid the same price as if you took delivery in Canada. The savings are only if you were going to be taking a vacation in Europe and having to rent a car - taking delivery in Munich would save you this cost. Great program though - I think there are 15 or so places in Europe that you can drop the car off and BMW will ship back from.

I looked at it but it was such a sh*tty deal that I chose to buy my car.

BMWCA really missed the boat on ED.

They were all proud last fall to offer it, but it was not a point to save money for a buyer like the US do, it was for BMWCA to get all the same amount of money as before but the buyer pays for a bunch of the stuff that they don't.

Don't waste your time, get your $4000 off now

I asked the dealer about it and they said it would save me about $2000. The only reason that I would do is it is if I was planning on a vacation in Europe anyway (which is a pretty good reason!). The cost savings aren't that great.

Also, from what I understand you have to pay cash for the car to do it which means no leasing or financing unless you do it through a third party company.

You might save $$ but there were a bunch of back end costs like shipping your car back on your $$.

I thought that the shipping costs were included in the ED option.

I thought BMW CA was going to revamp the ED program and make it closer to the US offering. Has that been kiboshed?

Any new news on Canadian ED?

I have been looking into ED on potentially purchasing our first BMW. I was definitely excited about this program, until I started reading a lot of the posts by Canadians on this and the Bimmerfest forums and found out that Canadian ED is not setup the same way as the BMW NA program.

This is the most recent thread that I can find on either of these two forums, and it's close to a year old now.

So, has anyone in Canada done an ED purchase recently and if so, has the Canadian ED process changed, or is it still a lot more complicated compared to the US version with a lot less benefit? In particular, we would like to trade in a car that has about $15K worth of wholesale cost left on it, so the tax savings would be significant.

I went to a local dealership and the salesman seemed to know at least a bit about the process, but I haven't had serious discussions on price yet with him.

The information that I would be looking for would be the following:

-CDN ED invoice pricing
-Current list of extra fees (which from research on these forums looks to be quite a bit more hidden fees than in the US where BMWNA takes care of it)
-Tax implecations
-Anything else that I should know?

Any help would be appreciated, but it looks like I just might have to navigate through this and see if it's worthwhile...

Thanks!

(Cross posted to the appropriate thread in Bimmerfest Forums as well)

I was looking into this too but I found out it doesn't cover the M3. I wasn't too bothered about the potential savings, I wanted to drive the car from the factory, tour parts of Germany and Italy and have some great memories. Some of the tales on the US board detail a great experience.

All available Canadian models which are built in Germany are eligible for ED. I did my homework just this past November when I placed the order for my car. The only benefit of this program to us Canadians is that you have a car to drive should you decide to take a vacation in Europe.

Good to know - I was told this by a salesperson (perhaps for reasons of sale). I think the experience of picking up the car at BMW Welt would be worth the extra hassles. The only real downside is that you have to make do with another car for the 4-6 weeks it takes to ship after dropping it off.

Even if the savings are minuscule, say 2-3 grand it almost offsets the cost of going to Europe. So basically you get a free / very cheap trip to Europe. If I were ever to buy a new BMW, I would definitely get ED.

There are zero saving in the cost of a new vehicle with ED in Canada. Basically you buy your new BMW for exactly what it costs as if you were to buy it here, except you get delivery at the BMW Welt and 2 weeks included insurance to drive around Europe.

There are no savings so you would still have to get yourself there and back.

I'm currently doing a European Delivery since I am planning on going there anyway for 2 months, and I wanted a car

I have searched about this and found this...

http://www.bmwblog.com/2007/09/02/th...y-may-improve/

So nothing changed? I am planning to buy a 335XI next year and also planning on a vacation to Germany so might as well take advantage of this if I can...

It would be worth it just to pick up the car at the BMW world headquarters in Munich. The architecture and interior design are amazing. It would be fun to drive my car on the autobahn as well. Who cares if there is no saving?

That would be good, buying the car in cash is not really an option for everyone.

I just noticed that this is in the BMWCA website...

http://www.bmw.ca/ca/en/insights/bmw..._overview.html

But nothing about "packages"

Like in the US they get a 2for1 ticket price @ Luthansa!

Do we get some discounts in the hotel there?

ED does not enable you to get access to models that are not available in Canada.

Essentially, what you would pay to custom order any BMW made in Germany, you can take delivery at the factory, get 2 weeks or EU insurance, and BMW ships the car back to your stealership for the same price.

It would be a great way to purchase a new car, exactly as you want, and a great excuse for a vacation in Europe. But no special deals like in the US. And you'll probably get a better price if you find a car you like sitting on a dealers lot.

I so have to agree why on earth we always have to pay more I will never know.

I just purchased a new Apple MacBook Pro and low and behold the Canadian price was $150- higher then the US price, with our dollar at 1.002 against the US dollar it should be the other way around.

Same can be said for the US price verses a Canadian price for a BMW .... go figure.

As nice as a ED is, my recommendation would be to purchase here one will have less sleepless nights waiting for the home delivery
