I have 30's and I get pulled over 1 out of 4 times.

Anyone know any good shop that would remove rear window tint. I bought my car with tints 20%, got pulled over all over. Went to my tint shop but they refuse to remove rear tints because they might damage the defroster. Which I do understand.

I've had pretty much every percentage of tint possible. (from 5% to 75%)

75% looks like it's not even tinted and it really gets hot in the summer.

50% has that "classy" look. If you have a nice interior (such as coral red), I'd go with 50%.
If you have a very light tan interior, 50% is going to look very light since your interior reflects a lot.
If you have a dark interior, 50% will look like it's 35%.

The best way to go in my opinion is to match up your rear and front tints. The only way to do this is to get ONE shade darker on your rear windshield since you will not have tints on your front windshield which means your two front windows will always look lighter and uneven from the two back ones.

My favorite setup was 35% on the front and back windows and 20% on the rear windshield...obviously front windshield not tinted.

If you have a convertible, 20% all around is best.
If you don't have a convertible, 20% is way too dark and you will be pulled over when cops are bored or looking to make some $$.

This is 20% on my convertible with the top DOWN and light shining in and look how dark it is:

35% all around on murdered e92. Never had a pob in nj. Cops are known for being assholes for it around here too. Not dark enough to be stopped but good if u get caught speeding if they are nice you will get a tint ticket not a speeding ticket. Oh and looks real dark at night and still good in the day

while that used to be true, it really depends on the cop. i have been hearing of people getting pulled over for 40-50% tints lately...

my middle aged neighbor got pulled over right by his house the other day in his early 2000 champagne colored altima and was given tickets for tints on each window...

his tints are clearly lighter than 35% from what i see.

Both my older maximas were 20% all around. Was only harassed once on my way upstate. (Ulster county)

This may seem like a silly question, but why tint? I really think tint is ghetto as shit on any car. Also, why would chance it given the economy today? Police depts. as a whole are hurting for funds so they will break balls for stupid shit like tint and the dumbest shit ever----tailight tinting, especially in NY and NJ!! You dont need tint unless you live in Arizona or some other desert area. And really guys contrary to what folks on here think, the tint doesn't lower the interior temp significantly enough to warrant it. Retards are spending 3-500 on ceramic non-metallic tints? how extreme can you go..youll get hassled in ny and nj no matter what if its darker than 40. achieve residence in PA, register your car there and tint it 30%, they can't legally write you a ticket in any other state.

Is window tint a primary offense(they can pull you over bc you have tint) or a secondary offense( your already pulled over for something else)?

I just got tickets up the Ass!! I have 30% on my E90 The pigs gave me 1 ticket for each front window! 70% is the legal limit in NY state!!! Check violation 375.1 ny traffic laws !

Correct...when i got pulled over in june officer gave me tickets for every window, front plate, tail lights and worst of all speeding BUT i got a receipt saying everything was fixed...everything got dropped and all i had to pay was a parking ticket...i got 20's now but a beige interior i want it darker and will be doing my windshield soon

most cops wont hassle you. unless you get stuck at a "seatbelt" checkpoint. other times it gives them an excuse to write you for a non moving violation instead of a moving violation.
I got tagged at a fair amount over the speed limit, instant on Ka, the cop who pulled me over said....those windows dont look legal. he wrote me for two tickets, one for each front window. when he handed me the tickets, he said, remember, these are non point equipment violations, and to slow down.

I've not had any problems with 30% all around on my 330i or the S60R, other than the above mentioned incident and a checkpoint. if its at night, make sure you turn your dome light on and open the sunroof. or have your windows all rolled down well before the checkpoint.

I have a friend in NYPD who told me that they can technically write up a passenger car for all windows except for the rear window. they only do that if you really piss them off. 4 tickets @ 65 each.
