Ok then snobbery was a misleading term there, perhaps I should have said attitude to lesser spec owners on here. It was just how I saw the thread going in general terms at the time I posted last night. Fair enough smell the sh!t you shovel as they say but I am not going to be pigeon-holed for diluting the brand cause I went for a 320d.

For what it is worth I don't think it is that common a car anyhow, yesterday I did my usual drive via a major trunk road between Wolverhampton and Brum then onto the M5 for about 6 junctions or so. Did not see another E90 going or coming back, however I did see an E91 and 2 E92s. Common as muck those coupes......

316s, 318s and 320s don't dilute the brand. If it wasn't for the creation and subsequent large number of sales of these smaller engined models there would be no brand left. So next time you blast past a poor little 318 in your 335, doth your cap in thanks as it would never have existed without it.

It's normal for people in the more powerful cars within a range to look down on their smaller engined brothers. I previously always bought hot hatches and looked down on the less powerful models. However, I owned a 318d and to most of my friends who have no interest in cars this was far more prestigious than any of the 200+ bhp hatches that I owned even though initial cost was the same.

Anyway, to get back to the original topic. Yes, there are a lot of 3s about. No bad thing.

Nope im not snobbish I don't use a car as a status symbol. Adding msport to my info just says the model I have not belittle the other specs how can you interpret any more? I also have a 56 plate Honda jazz if you think it concerns me so much and would love a 335

For what it's worth, I include MSport in my spec so that if I'm moaning about harsh ride, or tyre sizes, then it helps IMO if the reader is aware I have a lower/stiffer suspension and staggered sizes due to the spec.

There are times I wish I had all the MSport trim except the suspension (and non-staggered sizes when it comes to buying new tyres )

We could go the other way and just state E9x and forgo the engine sizes

I've had loads of beemers, all off which have been 6 cylinder. Would never have a 4 pot - unless that 2.0 ltr turbo coming down the line cuts the mustard. Wouldnt have poverty spec either. Hey ho, just my views.

It's down to choice - there are many reasons for choosing a specific car...

For example, I would have settled for a 520d without any problems, but because I did not like the oval singular exhaust pipe, I went one up - not to look down on smaller engined models, it was purely a matter of taste. In times gone by, I loved BMW but Mr. Insurance wasn't having any of it, so I had to settle for smaller engine models - again individual reasons.

To describe basic models as "poverty spec" or any other similar derogatory term, is ignorant at the least. If your needs are basic, then you don't need maximum spec. Would you live alone in a 20 bedroom house? Or set the table for 4 if you eat alone? Don't be daft...

As for E90 popularity ... yes, they are popular... but draw the line between popular and common - these words might imply the same thing, but in two different ways

I'd love an M5 and a Ferrari 458. I can't afford to run the former and I can't afford to buy the latter (let alone run it). In that respect my 335d is "poverty spec". I bought it because it meets certain criteria both as a car and financially. Compared to a lot of the cars that other members here drive around in 2 year old E92 is a shed.

Are 318/320 drivers any different? Why did they buy their cars? Did price and long-term running costs have nothing to do with it?

Can we just drop the pretence. "Poverty spec" is a turn of phrase that I used. However, I am not the only to use it and I certainly didn't invent it. Get off your moral high horses for 5 minutes and appreciate that nothing in this thread was intentionally derogatory.

We all know the only reason Matt got an SE with no iDrive because he's a poor bastard and couldn't afford and M-Sport with pro-nav despite what he says to the contrary
