P0012 + P1553/4 Troubleshooting

Saw the other P0012 thread but didn't want to hijack because my situation is a little different:

A few months ago I was getting a 1553 code, coupled with a 0012 (intake over retarded). Following advice here, I cleaned and swapped the solenoids (dipped in unleaded and dried, didn't have any compressed air). Now I have a 1554 code and

Now I'm reading a 1554 - I switched positions of the solenoids after cleaning so I assume the exhaust (lower) solenoid will need to be replaced. However, I'm concerned the 0012 may be an additional problem as that code is still coming up (an intake issue).

What's the next step here/ how do I diagnose the underlying issue for a 0012?

Also is this something I can easily do myself like the solenoids, or should I have someone else take this apart? It's my DD. Thanks

Hmm, quite an interesting issue. I gather P0012 is being caused by a faulty solenoid and it was throwing P1553 and now since swapping around P1554. And just from a cursory google search on these codes, P1553 and P1554 are the two positions of the solenoids. So if I am understanding this correctly it could be as simple as the solenoid that has moved to the position where P1554 is relevant is your faulty item.

I really need to get my OBD2 cable setup on my PC...
