Cool Need advice on getting Koni FSD shocks...

Okay, so I think I've done enough research and the Koni FSDs seem like a really good idea with the stock sport suspension on the E90. (Tirerack's test was on the E46, but I think the E90 is pretty similar.)

How do I go about getting them at a good price, and getting them installed for a good price?

Any specific advice for the Oakland, CA area would be great.

Thank you!

You asked this question in another one of your own threads. Read it; there's your answer.

Uh, no I didn't... This thread is about installation. The previous one was about how comfy the shocks were...

This is my first component install, so I'm wondering if there is any advice out there for a first-timer. I worry a little bit because of course a poorly-done suspension component install can be dangerous...

Thanks!

Sorry. I must have confused you with someone else.
Check the vendors section of this forum. BavX say they offer the best price. HPA stocks these as well.

No worries, cvc.

Any advice from anyone about the installation process and how to make sure it's done right? Any recommended installers from personal experience in the San Francisco East Bay area?

Thanks!

I'd recommend changing the springs as well. You're already getting the FSD, might as well pair them up with the Eibach. It's a great combo with an excellent drop for the e90.

As far as the installation, if you get the Eibach then it's a straight swap. Your guy will only have to remove the entire strut/spring assembly and replace it with the new one. If not, he's going to have to unmount the OEM, then remove the springs from the original and replace them on the KONI. He might charge you more for that, so at the very end, I think if you go with the EIBACH/KONI FSD combo, you'll get the best results for you buck.

Thanks DTMrack, but I'd prefer not to drop at all... the ride is horrible enough as it is in Oakland... just doesn't make sense to me to drop the car at all when the roads are so bad. The whole point of switching to the FSDs is for the car to do better in these conditions.

I think you will be VERY happy with the FSD's especially if you don't drop it..but damn the E9X's look great dropped...as does just about any car...

Agreed... but basically I like drawing low cars, and I like riding in comfier cars... the FSDs do sound magical to me...

What I don't get is why car manufacturers don't use something like that themselves! Doesn't even seem very expensive to add it...

So the eibach/Koni FSD combo comes with their own strut nut/top hat, etc.?

I think the OP would still have to disassemble the OEM strut to reuse the nut and top hat, no? We worked on my cousin's car installing the H&R touring cup kit, and had to disassemble the OEM strut assembly to reuse some components........

Mecedes do in some of their range. For example, the C-Class uses a very similar damper as standard, hence the reviews for a better blend of handling and comfort.

I run FSDs on my E91 and after trying a C-Class sport setup, found the ride and handling very comparable, for the subtle feel you get from the FSDs.
