Wedge,

I'm getting transmission error ( I don't have the Alpina Flash, old model) and changing trans fluid this weekend.

Which will be the best software to clear the transmission codes and reset adaptation?
This is what I have working:

INPA v5.0.6
NCSExpert 4.0.1
DIS v57 & TIS
SSS v32

The BT cable will not work with Winkfp. You need the dcan cable or Icom interface.

Can someone tell me how to reset TCU adaptations in INPA after flashing? I go to F9 e90, select transmission, double click on automatic, then it throws up an error basically says it cannot find correct GS19 module and kicks me out. Cannot select F6 from anywhere in there.

Thanks!

edit: have been running the Alpina flash for quite a while, been experiencing some rough shifting and wanted to reset to see if that cleared it up.

We can always try adaptation, but honestly this is the second car I've owned with a ZF 6HP19TU and programming is really only one part of the whose issue. You might need to order a zip kit from Sonnax. Could be something as simple as a bad valve.

So are you saying that it shouldn't be hanging around in gear and should be shifting when I let off the gas?

Thanks wedge I think i fixed it. Did not have GS19D file in the right place. Anyway it went through and let me reset after that.

General FYI, I thought I had reset things when I flashed several months ago, guess I did not.

Anyway have no had any problems with the Alpina flash, love it, until I added rear subframe bushing stiffeners. This firms up the rear quite a lot and I would get some clunking at odd times under power and every now and then at start up or putting into park.

Went for a test drive just now and all that is gone, shifts seem crisper and better damped. Did not push it very hard though, I have read you need to baby it for 50 miles or so after a TCU reset, then ramp it up a bit, let it adapt.

So far so good.

My impressions:

Overall it's a great mod. The shifts are so much faster in any mode. Being able to see what gear you are in at all times is great (D1, D2, D3 etc. and S1, S2, S3, etc VS just D or DS).

Some observations:

1. Manual mode still isn't quite as sharp as DCT or SMG. The rev match downshifts aren't as aggressive. Kinda of disappointing, but understandable since after all...this is still an auto transmission.

2. Driving in D is "interesting". When you lightly accelerate in D, the car shifts through the gears so fast it almost feels like a CVT transmission. The car just stays at 2krpm and before you know it, you are doing 40mph in D6. It's kind of unnatural feeling.

Note on Alpina D mode. I have given up trying to get it to kick down and accelerate hard while in D6. Just does not feel right. Now if I want to pass quick paddle downshift to 4th and stomp on it, goes right back to 6th after you're done. Requires driver retraining but works better than waiting for the car to kick down on its own out of 6th. Plus it just feels bad to be flooring it in 6th going 45 mph or whatever, and have it not do anything for a while, then suddenly kick down. I still like D for say 60 MPH + highway cruising and esp using cruise control.

It may be my imagination but it seems like the logic for staying in temp sport mode when paddle shifting like this out of D is different.

I am also curious to see if resetting the adaptations changes how D mode reacts to request for accel, if it downshifts earlier. As I said above I did not reset after flashing back in March or whenever so who knows. Will wait the required 50 miles or so and see.

WHat year is the car and what interface are you trying this flash with??

Flash works with 3/07 and newer and the interface is either a Dcan cable or ICOM..

Just did the flash, not really impressed. The D mode is OK but you must push the pedal on the highway to keep up and same going uphill.

Does it take a while to adapt to driving style?
