Hello all-

Going to start a detail of my 2006 BMW 330i (Jet Black). Overall a few deeper scratches in some spots but a lot of holograms from someone that had no clue as to what they were doing. You can actually see the pattern of the probable circular buffer that was used.

Anyway I will be using my new Flex for this detail.

Method/products going to be using:

Wash
Zaino Clay
Wash
Dry
Menzerna SIP w/ most likely orange CCS pad
Menzerna 106FF w/ white CCS pad
Menzerna PO85RD w/ blue CCS pad

First question, is this overkill? I've done a ton of research and have found many many people using this combo.

Second question, when do I do the IPA 50/50 distilled water mix wipedown? Before each Menzerna product?

Third question, what should I top this with? The only thing I can get quickly would be Zaino. Any suggestions as to which Zaino product to top with? AIO, Z5??

Fourth question, Will it be a big deal to wait for the seal/wax after the PO85RD a few days if I dont go with a Zaino product?

Any other suggestions??

Definitely NOT overkill considering you are dealing with the JB. Been there, done that and will be doing the same process you listed this weekend.

Be sure to spritz the buffing pads when you begin to notice the polishing compound not spreading as well. This will work well in keeping the abrasions from polishing to a minimum with this paint.

I typically will not do a wipe down since the car is wash prepped between polish steps. If you want to do so then after each application would be ideal. Lightly and I do mean LIGHTLY wipe the car down as the paint will be much more likely to scratch after having been polished.

I haven't used Zaino in quite a while however, there is quite a bit of info on their site to help you along.

My choice these days for a true POP! of the JB is to use a quality sealant and a high quality carnauba. For JB paint this seems to be my favorite combination.

You know of course that pics are now a REQUIREMENT post after you've finished, right?

What do you use on JB for your sealant and wax?

In the past I've used Jetseal 109 as a sealant with good results and most recently have used the Menzerna FMJ as my sealant of choice. Just about the easiest product to apply & remove that I've ever used.

Any wax that I've used is & will always be carnauba. When I was using the Jetseal 109 I always topped it off with the Chemical Guys 50/50 Concourse carnauba. Great results but, never really the POP! factor I like.

With the Menzerna FMJ sealant I have stayed with Dodo Juice Purple Haze and have since moved on to the Supernatural carnauba. It's pricey but, man does it work wonders with the JB. The Purple Haze has "crystals" within the carnauba that, once applied to the paint, absolutely magnify the brilliance & depth of the JB. Really hard to describe .......

I've heard great things about the Nattys Blue, P21 (?) amongst others. I stick with what I get the results with ......... lately, I've been using the Dodo Juice Red Mist qd which works surprisingly well and leaves a better shine than so many of the other products I've used.

Thanks for that info. So I guess the question is can I run through the Menzerna polish products tomorrow and wait 4 or 5 days to get in my sealant/wax and apply next weekend. Just hate to break up the process like that.

It would be ideal to devote a weekend to the car. If you go through the polishing and all then the paint is going to have minimal protection (if any at all) and will be more than susceptible to scratches etc. If you plan on leaving the car in the garage the entire time then sure, no worries in waiting.
The sealing/waxing is the easiest & most rewarding part anyway ...

If you have to use the car during the week then I would put things off until you have everything you need and in place.

If you have the Zaino products handy then you could definitely go that route as well. Just comes down to preference.

I will typically use a MF applicator pad for each application. Be sure not to use the same pad for each of the products though. As a matter of fact, you can pick up a bundle of 5 MF (blue) pads for like $3 @ Auto Zone. This way I use one and throw it away rather than risk scratching the paint surface down the line. They are machine washable too ... just remember not to use fabric softener when washing micro fiber.

If you've got the Z and polish everything out, no need for Z5, go for the Z2 (no fillers)

i recently detailed a 04 JB RSX with a flex, and it took me 2 passes to make it 95% corrected!

here are the results:


One more for you


for i think, to me personally, 3 passes would somehow overkill. only my thoughts, may or may not be that, it all depends on the condition and the hardness of the paint!
