Amber In Headlights

this has been beat to death but i think the AMBER STRIP in the factory headlights sold in the US is so ugly...

bavauto sells the clear lights for halogen around 800 for xenon around 1600 and for xenon + cornering around 2000.... that is a ridiculous price...I was using the "amber gone" tint strips which turned out ugly... now im about to try those vinyl amber gone plastic cover things... theyre about 150

DOES ANYONE know a place to get the factory lights with the european design for cheaper??? or has anyone sold their stock headlights on ebay and have any idea what youd get from them???

best bet is buying them off someone from the forums. Otherwise, good luck getting a good price.

Funny. Just bought BlueBats vinal amber outs because replacing the front lights is too deep for my pockets for what it is worth IMO. Bluebats are low cost and went on fine. I thought about "eyelids" but they dont cover the amber on the bottom of the light. I would prefer new lights but I dont want to spend the money.

Well, may be same idea of what you tried on your car. But just to share....

Here are my pics!!! Got the darker 6/10's. Look dark in dim light. Look "medium" in bright light. Perfect for what I like. Covers the amber nice.....

GOOD LUCK!

Are those overlays 'squared' at the end? Where the amber comes to a point it looks like the overlay is square. ???

If you are looking for replacement headlights, I would try to find an OEM pair off ebay. Otherwise, you can do our Painted Headlight Covers which go over your existing headlights to get rid of the amber.

The link Nick posted was for the headlight amber covers, not the eyelids.

BlakJack--The tips are not squared persay--they are angled, but wider than the amber at the ends. It may be the way I lined them up?? Maybe not. Maybe it is meant to be wider to keep the amber from showing when the lights are turned on??? I dont know...you can trim them before install.

I showed them off to my BIL who is a big "BMW guy". He loved them, but did say he would take a razor blade and trim the ends thinner.... make it curve with the amber more. I think I may do that. Either way still very happy with results.

One thing. I like the idea of Bimmermans amber covers as show in the pic above. Look great. HOWEVER what I DON'T like (why I went with BB's) is that they do not appear to be sheer. Bimmers are more "solid". I chose BB's because you still get to view the wonderful shape of the BMW lights but block out the amber. A bit of amber still kinda peaks though however, it is WAY TONED DOWN but allows you to still see the headlight shape as a whole. Personal taste. Bimmermans look very nice...just look more "solid" and I prefered the sheer-ish look.
You can see the diff. in the photos.

To each his own and we all have different tastes.

GOOD LUCK with what ever you decide. HONESTLY--you cant go wrong with ANYTHING covering that darn amber!

Thanks Igneub. You're look nice, but yeah, if I got them I would probably trim them to follow the shape of the amber a little better. I'm still debating the overlays you bought or the plactic painted ones like Kenny posted. Tough decisions in life

Hehehehe---we live a tough life, yes!!!! It is hard to drive a BMW day in and day out!

GL with which ever....anything to cover the amber is nice! No way you can lose!

The two are a different look--so which ever you like! If super stuck, you could do a poll?

I prefer the deepened amber showing a tad. Let me know if you want more pics from farther away or whatever. Here is BB's web (sure you have it) --has more photos...better idea of what product looks like on a variety of cars.

http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/BlueBatmobile2005/

Yah...I think I may trim it just a tad but again, no regrets on that one!

SD390R--Did you trim yours before or after install? Yes...careful not to cut plastic on light! Kinda scary. Sharp razor and a light hand to start I guess.

Do you have a pic???

Yah, MDS82's CF amber covers did make me jealous!!!! He deserves it for the HOURS he put in. Wonder what he has up his sleeve?

i installed it and after a week or so got tired of that ugly ass extra bit hanging over and got bored and cut it off one day... btw i thought it was so you couldn't see the orange from an angle too but its really not, its just extra... i got a razr and VERY VERY VERY carefully cut it (even left a small small scratch on the headlight cover when i got reckless) i wouldn't recommend it unless youre going to be EXTREMELY careful
