After lithium'ing mine it doesn't squeak, but it sounds like the bearing is probably gone as it's very loud and makes a THRRRRR noise almost like an air compressor.

Thumbs up Thanks for the Tip

My 2007 335i heater / AC fan started squeaking loudly 2 days ago. Was driving me nuts!

Thanks to this thread, stopped this snowy morning at the local auto parts store, bought 1 can of CRC spray-able White Lithium grease, taped together 3 swizzle sticks, removed the micro filter and I was able to give a nice spray, top to bottom of the visible fan shaft.

Had a little smell of the grease for about 2 minutes and I could not detect the odor of the grease any longer. I then picked my wife up at the gym, she said she could not smell anything.

So Thanks!

I just did this on my car and used lithium spray grease. Worked a charm! So happy to have the fan back to quiet!

I did this on mine recently with a squirt of GT85 as it's nicer smelling than WD and its the same thing but has PTFE for better longevity.

I finally took my fan out, it's really not that hard, getting the air vent pipes back was the hardest part. The top of the shaft you can see when looking through the top is not the shaft itself and lubricating it will do nothing, it's part of a cover, you need to get underneath the top part but honestly I'd take it out and lubricate it properly.

Did the same as Digitalize and now the chirping/squeak is gone!

Unscrewed the panel below the glove box (2 torx screws) and pulled the vent pipes out of the way. It's a tight squeeze, but the blower comes out fairly easily. White lithium lubed the top and bottom (a plastic cover pops off the blower assembly to access the bottom), which were a bit corroded. Toughest part is getting the plastic air vent pipes all back together in place after the blower goes back in. There are 3 pieces and there's little room to manuver them in place. They don't clip together with a satisfying "snap"

Don't use WD40 when doing that. Your car will stink afterward.

I pushed some tissue down to surrount the rusty joint than used a bit of spray derusting agent than used some liquid mechanical grease. Then removed the tissue.

I have a spining squeeky noise sometime buts it more comming from the centre of the dash and actually does when the fan / heating etc are completely off... Driving me nuts but its not all the time either...

Take off pollen filter then I got a straw from McD's and dipped it in some fresh engine oil, then put finger over the open end which holds the oil in the straw. Then put over central spindle on fan (access via micro/pollen filter) and release finger on open end...all the oil will now run down the shaft.
Did this 5yrs ago. No probs since. Fan been quiet as mouse

Careful with the "spray it with oil" fix. Oils have VOCs, and VOCs will make you feel really sick after inhaling them.

I did this using an oil I've used a thousand times. After applying the oil, it spread out to all of the blower fan fins and all over the inside of the blower box. I could not stand the smell. Headaches, raw throat, etc. Wouldn't turn the fan on and opened the windows while the family was in the car.

There are two alternatives:
1) Remove the blower motor and lubricate the bearings directly with a low VOC lubricant.
2) Replace the motor. $135 part.

The blower motor takes two trim screws and a pressure tab to remove. Super easy, and takes only a few minutes. It's a little more difficult to get it back in there, but the whole thing takes under an hour.
