Recurring engine malfunction 320i coupe E92
Model: 320i coupe
Country:Ireland Automatic Transmission: Yes I-Drive: No Active steering: NO Comfort Access:Yes Hi folks let me give you a brief synopsis of current problem I purchased a new 320i coupe in 2007 shortly after coupe version of e92 was launched. A few months after taking ownership of car I noticed a recurring problem 1)When stopped at junction or red light car would start to vibrate badly as if engine was running incorrectly. 2)Engine started to hunt for rev's when stopped and rev counter would drop to almost zero revolutions and then race up to plus 1000 revulutions without me touching throttle. 3)Engine management light started to come on periodically and would then go out. 4)Car became dangerous to drive and I felt it could conk out at any time and I might lose steering na d brakes etc I ended up returing car to dealer probably 4 to 6 times in a period of 8-9 months. each time car was returned and I was told that all the injectors had been changed or the Lambda sensor in exhaust had been changed or both had been done. Eventually as I came to end of year one of ownership My BMW DEALER replaced my car with a brand new 320i 2008 model year as a gesture of goodwill. The 2008 320i model ran perfectly until Christmas 2009 (almost 2 years) and now all the problems that I listed above which occured on the 2007 model have started to occur on my 2008 model. Its already had all the fuel injectors relaced and lamda sensor on my 2008 model and while this makes the car driveable all the faults listed above are there just working there way up to a terminal mishap which requires car be returned to dealer again. I've owned numerous BMW'S previous to this 320i e92 model and never had any problems. There is a definite fault with this engine which BMW need to acknowledge. |

This just started and I am wondering if anyone else has this issue. I see some people have oil leaks from looking in this thread but they seem to be in other places.
I have a slight oil leak coming from the valve cover gasket. It is dripping on the exhaust manifold and leaving oily residue on the left side of the engine. No codes or anything like that. According to the the engine check the oil is at the maximum amount it can be. I was wondering if that was the problem. |

i may have posted in this thread quite a while back, but here are my brand new problems! (hooray)
1. at 70k, i take my car to the shop for another reason (cosmetic damage) and he discovers that my oil pan gasket needs to be replaced and that my oil has been leaking and running down the underside center of the car. quoted me $850. 2. was detailing my car and for the most part had all four windows down (this was after i clay barred/washed the car obviously) and was just finishing the waxing when i decided to move to cleaning the windows next. guess what? drivers side rear window won't raise up! The window motor is done, and needs to be replaced. quoted me $230~. 3. old news: seatbelt/passenger light is still on. 4. replaced brakes and rotors a while back at a friends place (he is a mechanic but does sidejobs at his garage at home and his son is in bmw service department). he personally didn't have the tool to reset so i was ok with driving around with a brake light for a bit. i take the car to another friend's legit shop, and the brake light won't reset (the shop had the correct tool to reset). turns out the front pads and rotors are almost done for. wtf? no, i do not drive aggressively, i have a base model 325i with literally no modifications whatsoever. not even tint. im done for now.

btw, that oil pan gasket problem...the shop needs to yank the engine out to reach the oil pan gasket. other brand cars can be accessed from undercarriage and be done from start to finish in about 2 hours. mine will take about a week. cheers to you bmw

Model: 2006 e90 330i
Build: April 2005 Country: USA Automatic transmission (yes/no): No I-Drive (yes/no): No Active Steering (yes/no): Yes Comfort Access (yes/no): No Problem description: 63,500 miles: Two valve-cover bolts popped (forward, low-side). Very minimal oil leakage (nearly none). Bought a set of bolts and had the broken ones tapped out and replaced. Pulled the cowl and covers off to check the other bolts, all appear intact. Problem description: After heavy rain, a puddle of water appears below the dead-pedal and clutch pedal. Removed interior panels in the footwell area and A pillar, and lifted the carpet... no obvious signs of the source. Tested the forward sun-roof drain and couldn't find where it drains to. Appears the drain-tube plugs into the A pillar structure (and, then...?). Head-scratcher for sure.

Model: 2010 e90 328xi
Build: Sept 2009 Country: USA Automatic transmission (yes/no): Yes I-Drive (yes/no): No Active Steering (yes/no): No Comfort Access (yes/no): No ------------------------------------- All around, very happy with the car, however: 1 - Driver's side-mirror whistles above 20mph when driver's window is down. Have not tried the "clear-bra" band-aid to fix this yet. 2 - Tire/Tread noise on the continental contipro ssr's (205/55-16) is tremendous after 12k miles. I rotated, which helped for 150 miles, but now the roar is back. Car is going to to be checked for bad bearings, but most likely the RFTs are the culprit. |
