If they went from 91 to 93 (in my state) got rid of ethanol and produced fuel the way they used to so it wouldn't degrade (or "spoil") so quickly, then I might switch. Otherwise it's just marketing BS.

I filled up today (20-cents / gallon discount for Premium on Tuesdays) and noticed it was the new Nitro+ and they had a BMW picture on the pump saying "BMW M recommended". The price per gallon seems to be about the same.

I almost never fill up at Costco for one reason -- the big ass lines at the pumps and 20 minute plus wait.

In some locations yes you need membership and then there is NJ where you don't

Depends on your location, the Costco Gas in Riverhead NY probably has enough cars at one time that I can count on one hand.

For busier locations like Edison, NJ... I would go about 30 mins after the store closes so its less busy.

I'm sure in really busy locations like SoCal... there is never a good time.

BMW and Shell are raking in that partnership dough.

http://www.shell.com/global/products...aboration.html

Quote:
Shell is expanding its collaboration with the BMW AG, following on from being named the recommended supplier of genuine BMW engine oil and BMW Group’s only recommended global supplier for aftermarket motor oils. Shell Lubricants – Shell Helix Ultra and Pennzoil Platinum – joins forces with BMW Motorsport as its premium technology partner and exclusive supplier of premium motor oils. And Shell V-Power will be the recommended fuel for the BMW M Automobiles.
The only way they could make this fuel sound more like a marker's brainchild is if they managed to work "3D" and "HD" in the name.

Oh such bullshit.

Shell is still my preferred fuel though.

Bottom line; there is nothing positive about ethanol in the US.
Pumping e85 into my car begs to differ.

i wonder what octane this will come in at? may be worth it if it is an upper 90s octane.

I'm hoping 94 or 95 would be nice, but that's for hoping too much. Depends on the price variance. Testing it out will be the main point to see if it truly is worth it.

Could be a gimmick, but I am "V-power for life" so whatever it is, I'm on board.

Wonder how it will affect tunes?

+1

Shell always ran great on my car, logs always healthy, everything. I switched to BP when my local Shell closed up, and I've had timing corrections like crazy, among other noticeable issues on their fuel according to my datalogs.

Actually you don't need a membership for anything at Costco, you can go in and purchase a Gift card and that can be used in place of a membership.

just a way to beat the system.

I have purchased gas, among other things at Costco With out a membership card, (I do have one now)
their gas is listed as top tier, but locally for me it is E10 but still considerably cheaper than others, being in the corn belt of America (South Dakota) we really do not have more than 91 octane, and most all is E-10

I see questions in here on octane rating of this new fuel formulation, to clarify, the article says directly there will be no change in octane.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I have been told by 3 independent gas station owners, that the filters from the premium gas are noticeably cleaner when its time to change them out (as you may or may not know, we have several grades of premium, including 96 octane in Europe). For me that extra clean fuel is enough reason to spend the extra $4 a tank or whatever it is.

I think you can blame your government for that, not the fuel companies.

Bad idea. Costco gas is cheaper because it doesn't contain the additives other premium fuels have.

Took an Audi in for service and found out it needed carbon clean up in the intake manifold. First thing the service advisor asked was "do you use Costco gas?" My wife had been using it so we immediately switched to Shell V-Power. If it avoids another $600 service it's worth it. Costco gas for performance engines isn't a good idea.

Costco is top tier, uses the same detergents as BP and other top tier branded fuels.

http://www.toptiergas.com/retailers.html

So the SA would be advising against quite a few fuel brands. Also when it comes to carbon cleaning, different brands of fuels will make little difference. Don't get me wrong, I can't stand seeing people wait 30 minutes in line to save .50¢ per fill up at SAMs club, or other cheap fuel retailers, but top tier is top tier.
