I'll wait until more independent studies come in before I shell out more money for gas. Pun intended.
I'm sure that it is better than their reference value and does mark an improvement in gasoline detergent technology, but right now I'm just seeing a lot of marketing terms being thrown around that suggests hype in something that consumers aren't going to notice. |

Shell V power is already "good enough" IMO...
This will come down to the price premium over V-power to see if it's really "worth it"

"A new, more expensive grade of premium-plus gasoline that goes on sale at Shell stations nationwide Monday could signal a new round of competition as oil companies add new features to their fuels....Shell is taking their premium fuel and moving it up,"
They already are the highest priced brand in most markets, so this moves them up even more! Although the goverment efforts might be to present a rosier picture of the economy in an effort to bolster optimism, the buying public actually cut back its overall spending during the last quarter. So in view of this skepticism by the public, they are going to buy an even more expensive premium Shell?! "Shell's claims include longer engine life and greater efficiency,"...and when the average person gets a new car on a 3 year lease, they are gonna worry about longer engine life?! And the guy who buys an off-lease or used car to save money is gonna line up to buy the more expensive gas?! |

what we really need to end the additional of ethanol to our gasoline. It's reducing fuel economy and growing corn to produce this crap is about as environmentally-unfriendly as it gets! Ethanol is also bad for engines, especially small ones (lawn mowers, etc.).
Bottom line; there is nothing positive about ethanol in the US. |

I haven't ran shell in years. Been running Costco for a while now. Price has been lower = can't complain.

When I looked into this it was still only 91 octane. I know my car makes the least HP on Shell vpower as it has 0 ethanol here in canada. Would probably increase MPG with e0 but more interested in the octane (only use 94)

Could be physiological but it seems that Shell V power runs better in M5. Can't tell much difference in the 325i. It will be interesting to see if there is improvement or dysfunction.

It's the epitome of being penny-wise and pound-foolish. There's nothing remotely responsible about owning a BMW. The initial purchase price is thousands more than is "necessary", the cost of ownership is incredibly high relative to your run-of-the-mill American or Asian people-mover, and they depreciate faster than they can go 0-60. It's amusing to watch people justify purchasing cheap gas (like the frequent "can I just use Regular 87 oct" threads around here), which might save them a total of about $100 a year on fuel, when they are shelling out thousands extra for the rest of the ownership experience.
Do you actually need to run Shell's latest and greatest fuel? Probably not. But do you actually need to run Michelin Pilot Super Sports? You don't need the highest performing tire on the market to accelerate hard up on-ramps. |

Do you need a Costco membership to buy fuel from them? I know they're a top-tier fuel, and the only other station near me with that is BP and my logs suggest that station (at least) isn't pumping enough octane.
