The aluminum base does have 6 slots or groves to have you extra grip. the original version of these did not have any groves and was impossible to see it it was turning or not.

Just got my package in. I take back my statement, it indeed does have slots for ample grip. Going to install now...

Got the first light installed on the passenger side in about 2 min but only the inner ring lights up...the outer ring has a very very faint green color...did I install it incorrectly>?

'There is a nice cut-away diagram somewhere which i will look for'
Marc, Is this what you're looking for? I had posted this in another thread some time ago - design of E92 AE's:

Good god. Took me an hour to get these suckers in...just trying to position the bulb into the housing is a pain by itself (E92 doesn't leave you much room to work with), then lining up the slot is another pain...
2 questions/comments: - The O-ring should be glued on 2 sides instead of 1...more than once I was trying to twist the bulb to slot it in, and the unglued side of the O-ring slipped and blocked the slot - To say the aluminium heat sink lacks grip is a dramatic understatement. I tried wearing a pair of playtex gloves (which has grooved surface on the fingertips to offer good grip) and I can still only turn the bulbs like 1/16th of a turn. The bulbs seem to be in position and the rings lit up fine, but how easy will the bulbs dislodge? A quick shot: |

As long as they are tight they should be fine? Looks like you have them seated in their correctly judging by the light output. I'm convinced the 2007 E92 Angel Eye design is different than 2008+ I don't have even close to that good of light distribution in the rings.

As for them being green - that sounds like they are not installed or twisted into place. The LED's are not green at all, and the specific color bin of these LED's is directly in between the outlaying colors, so there should not be the slightest hint of green. Can you try and capture a picture of what you are referring to?

It not that the aluminum heat sink lacks grip, but it is rather a lack of space that makes it difficult to install - but that should be known ahead of time. i think that even if the heatsink was the shape of s square , it would still be difficult to install

Just put in the new Lux V3s on my E92...
The sun was more or less directly behind me when I shot these photos. (Note: yes I know my hood is open... we're getting prepped it for something special ) As you can see depending on the angle at which you look at the angel eyes elements of outer/inner rings are more visible than their opposite: In direct sun light (literally with the sun directly in front of the head lamps) the slightest angle offsets at close distance can make one ring brighter than the other. I was trying to show that difference with the close up, the first and second pictures are the best representation of the Lux V3 (i.e. they look fantastic). Once I get my car back I am going to do some "proper" shoots including indoor areas where the Lux V3s will really stand out. It's really overcast/dusk lighting that really makes LED angel eyes look stunning. In summary I am more than happy with my choice! |
