For all you experienced modders and experts (I am not)... if you were me and you only had $3k to $5k to spend on performance mods (excluding Brakes) what would you upgrade to (the more specific the better) and in what order? I will not ever track it and it is my daily driver.
If you really want to transform your car, but still have a comfortable daily driver,
get an fmic, ER charge pipe, Cobb pro-tune, and BMW Performance Suspension. Everything installed including parts will be about 3,000 and your car willl be much faster, better handling. If you plan to track, then save for LSD,tires, and pads.

Ditch the BMW performance suspension and pick up a set of ST coilovers or a used set of KW's v1, v2, v3 really won't matter if you don't have intentions of tracking it. A set of ST coils could be had brand new for under $850.

Also, add a set of DP's to that list and your all set. All the parts should be right under $3k if you don't buy all new parts. I would buy the suspension new and everything else used.

Used FMIC ≈ $400-$700 depending on brand.
Used DP's ≈ $250-$350 (don't spend more than that on pipes, cough cough AR cough, lol)
Cobb v2 or v3 ≈ $400-$750
Cobb PROTune / BQ Tune ≈ $250
ST coilovers new ≈ $850

You will more than likely recoup 75%-85% of your costs when you decide to part out.

Not a bad investment to have some fun and treat your baby right!

As far as the other post recommended to keep the car stock because of the stock IS over boost / stock tune, I don't agree.
Yes, it is a blast to drive around town and the streets stock, but eventually it does get old and we do lack top end power. Once tuned you will realize the amazing power capabilities our n54 engines have and the sheer joy of a twin turbo powerplant that produces 400+ wtq and ≈ 400+ whp.

Happy modding!

So what exactly would change if you had a cobb pro tune? You lose the overboost, but would gain more torque on command? I'm new to tunes.

I don't know if this is world record IS stock turbo #s, not that it matters, but WedgePerformance/BQ tuning have taken my car to another level. And I have less than $5k invested, maybe 3-4k max. First graph is my DD map, second was a experimental map that I had never tried before, thus the brief throttle closure (the gap). Once dialed in that would be gone. DCT snaps shifts like never before with zero slippage at well over 500ft/lbs of torque. Who needs overboost?

WOW! Impressive numbers. Can you provide a complete mod list...? Also, what boost were you running when you achieved those impressive numbers? Lastly, any chance you have pump gas numbers?

Thanks,
Joe

Cobb V3, VRSF dps and IC, aFe stage 2 si, ER CP w/ Forge DVs, BMS catch can and oil thermostat, and SteveAZ stage 1 inline pump. I think that covers it. I peak at 21 psi and taper to around 16 at 6k rpm. No pump gas numbers yet, though I do have a pump gas map available. I would guess in the 410 to 420hp range. I hit 408 on JB4, no flash and pump gas

Based on the dyno - 460 to the wheels puts your car roughly at an estimated 566 crank based on the drivetrain (loss/gain i.e. going from hp/whp (-hp) or whp/hp (+hp) )- of course this is a rough estimate but that is a pretty good WOW factor!

You have a rocket ship!

bro, you dont know if he couldn't afford it or not, maybe him living in Connecticut means he needs that x-drive tranny

no need to get ruffled up my man

I do know that it is possible to have the DTC semi-off with coding, not sure about the sport button.

Tune on an IS is like overboost with more boost all the time. No time/RPM limits, no kickdown to press, just go. You can adjust boost and boost control, fueling, tweak throttle response, turn off limiters, adjust the DCT for the extra torque, read codes and a lot of other things. Most importantly, you can tune your specific car for best, safe performance the mods/fuel you have and then retune at any time if things change.

2011 IS for sale

My IS is up for sale....tell your friends!
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1082174

To echo the points above, when tuned with the correct components, the IS's N54 engine runs extremely well. I'm not pro-tuned, but the combination of aftermarket parts combined with the JB4 has made the car an absolute blast to drive.

Smooth, strong, consistent, reliable power delivery.
Nuff said.
